In the NBA they can just stick a big lump like tim duncan near the basket and he will get the job done. That gets totally phased out in the olympics.
The dream team from afew years back could beat anyone with their eyes closed.

Truth be told, I hate Team USA because they forced their way into a so-called amateur competition. I would much rather watch the college kids play their hearts out as opposed to guys who don't want to be there in the first place.
Being allowed to play defense is certainly a reason why Team USA struggles in the Olympics. I also feel that international teams play more of a team game, unlike the NBA. The Olympics mean so much more to the international players as well, they take pride in representing their country and play with heart. Some of the top NBA guys decline to play in the Olympics because it interferes with their off-season scheduling; they have better things to do.

I see your point, but I think the main reason we've struggled recently is because sadly basketball in this country has substituted athleticism for fundamentals and shooting which is sad and pathetic. The good European countries still believe in good shooting and teamwork. I honestly blame the new generation for this (16-23) for this. I get in arguments with these dumbasses in work all the time. They always tell me that guys like Bird, Magic, etc. wouldn't be as good today because they would be too slow and the D is better now. BS!!!!! All the HOF's from the 80's would score 50 a game now easily because of the shitty new rules, and how good of shooteres they were.

Oh that's a bunch of bs!!! The whole reason that team was formed was because the US team was tired of having their college kids have to play pro's from Russia, and Yugoslavia. But they got away with it becaus the stupid ass IOC didn't consider you an amateur unless you played in the NBA. Same reason Russia used to always win the hockey gold.

If Kobe played in the Olympics he would slash straight to the basket and wonder why he didnt get a foul called. In the NBA its like....fly right in ,crash into a defender ,dunk it and get a foul.
Yeah and some of the players are half hearted with their efforts .wannabe hip hop stars who dont want their vacation spoiled. Must be hard to coach these people.

I always say technical skill/tactics beats athleticism .
Guy like chris mullen and larry bird have got the brains to manipulate a game even though they arent great athletes.
Under stern the NBA is just a moronic no defence/slam dunk/slash to the basket league full of ghetto ballers.
who the hell wants to watch that crap??

This about somes it up. Everybody thinks that David Stern is a great Commish, but in all actuality, it is the shittiness of all the other sports commish's that make him look good. The only good one was paul tagliabue(NFL). Roger Goddell(new NFL commish) is a ego maniac.

The reason why Team USA is bad for the fans is because they are expected to win by a landslide. What would you rather watch, a close, competitive game or a blowout? What fun is watching a team win by 40 points night in and night out?
If Team USA fails to win, everyone complains about how they should have dominated the competition by 40 points per game.
No one is happy and thats why they should send the college kids. Let a guy like Calipari coach a team with Beasley, Michael Rose, Hansbrough, O.J. Mayo, etc. At least these kids are coachable, unlike NBA players like Allen “It’s only practice” Iverson. What did his Olympic team do?
