Was your cousin a known name or developmental talent?

I remember Gardner's win...that was great day to be an American...and he really was a humble farm boy. Didn't he also get into some life threatening accident out in the woods, and make it through in true survivor man fashion?

Yep. He was stranded after a snowmobile ordeal and had to have a toe amputated due to frostbite.
In another incident, he was in a small plane that crashed in a lake and he supposedly had to swim for over an hour to reach shore in 44 degree water. Then was stranded overnight in sub freezing temperatures with no shelter until he was found the next morning.

The ultimate survivor man. Too bad he doesn't like hitting people.

Rarer, yes. More prestigious, I'm not so sure. Many of our best wrestlers enter freestyle rather than Greco after college, since Greco in the US is treated like the red-headed stepchild of wrestling styles (and this is coming from a guy who fucking loved wrestling Greco).

Tough question to answer. The goofy clinch rules at the time were an abomination (much like the even goofier clinch rules now), but it was a fair and square win by the rules that were in place.

Developmental would be a nice way of saying it....LOL
He was a jobber and "police officer"...."bodyguard"...."security" type stuff. He made tights for several of them too.

To completely praise Gardner's win and not bring up the clinch rule is a little bit misleading.
But he did out work Karerlin.

Cael Sanderson and Karelin are better than Kurt Angle, but he is not overrated.
