Red Sox trade, what do you think

Any other Sox fans as unhappy as I am about the Manny deal? Granted, he had to go, and Jason Bay is a good player, but we traded Manny fucking Ramirez and two former first round draft picks for Jason Bay. They seriously couldn't get anything better? I don't see how they can make this trade and not get any pitching help out of it, and lose 2 more players in the process.

I think the Red Sox were going to do anything to get rid of him. He would have just been an even bigger distraction down the stretch into the postseason just to get back at the upper management. It was very dissapointing to see him go though, especially for what they got for him in return. Hopefully this rejuvenates the players so they can put all the bullshit behind them now. The team has been playing like shit this past week.

EDIT: On another note, I wouldn't be surprised at all if he signs with the Yankees next year just to piss off the Red Sox ownership.

Not a Sox fan, but I don't think the trade makes better, nor worse. "Manny being Manny" had hit an all time high, and he had to get out. He wasn't exactly having a great year either. Bay is a above average player but not great.

I don't think Manny will do any better in L.A. He may actually do worse for one reason, L.A. is a pitchers ballpark. Most Manny's shot off he green monster or to shallow right in Boston, will all be long fly outs in L.A..

yeah they had to, im more dissapointed that it ended this way for manny. clearly this is a money ploy because he just wants to be a free agent so he can get his new 4 year 100 million dollar contract. hes 36 so had he stayed here and the red sox picked up his option theres no way he wouldve made 100 million in the next 4 years.

i just wish he wouldve handled it different. anyway Jason Bay can hit and now the sox have money to go after CC Sabathia and maybe a power hitter somewhere out there.

I think the Sox and the Yanks will be battling for C.C. this off season(go figure)

I was surprised to see that Bay's numbers are pretty comparable to Manny's.

Bay - .375 OBP, .519 SLG, 64 RBI
Manny - .398 OBP, .529 SLG, 68 RBI

But Manny was absolute clutch in the playoffs and you don't know how Bay is going to respond in that situation.

Check out Manny's number against the Yanks over the last three years: 167 AB, .510 OBP, .772 SLG, 46 RBI. That is nuts.

The numbers between the two are very close this year, I hate the Red Sox but I don't really understand the backlash against this trade from their viewpoint

This year Bay is putting up .282/.375/.519 with 22 HRs
Manny is putting up .299/.398/.529 with 20 HRs

When you factor in defense it's close to a wash. When you consider that Manny is only a two-month rental and that Bay is under contract for next year at a very reasonable price and is seven years younger than Manny then it looks pretty good for the Sox.

Moss and Hansen are both considered second tier prospects from the Sox, with Moss being slotted as a fourth OF on a good team, and a starter on a poor team, and Hansen as a back of the rotation guy in the best case.

Really I think this trade was good for all three teams, five years of LaRoche though I think is better than 14 months of Bay which is better than two months of Manny.

As a Dodgers fan, I'm liking it of course. He provides instant offense where shitty, waste-of-oxygen, excuse for a player Andruw Jones can't. You stick Jones' fat ass on the bench and play Ramirez, Kemp and Pierre in the outfield.
