Sad day at the Derby with what happened to Eight Belles. Takes the attention away from Big Brown and honestly I think we have a triple crown winner in that horse barring a tragedy like Barbaro. Big Brown looked fantastic from beginning to end and besides Eight Belles the rest of the field was well behind him. I don't think he'll have a problem winning the Preakness and the Belmont. About time we have a triple crown winner!!

Hold your horses(pun intended). They are still waiting to see how Big Brown is acting and feeling this week, its very possible that they may hold Big Brown out till the Belmont and skip the Preakness. They are affraid that the lack of experience(only 4 races including the Derby) may be bad for him. Plus alot of owners and trainers are starting to get a little on edge with the Eight Belles accident. 90% of the Derbys horse trainers, said they will hold their horses out till the Belmont.

No future races should be run until the racing industry can come up with a plan to prevent the 700 "breakdowns" that occur every year among these poor horses.

Should we stop driving vehicles until we find a way to prevent the 100's of people acrossed America who die in car accidents per day? 700 horses seems like alot, but it really isn't. More horses then that die each year on ranches acrossed America from sicknesses or breaking a leg doing some form of labor. Not to mention horses that die in rodeos, and so on.

These horses are fed with a silver spoon and pampered more then anyone on this website. You have to remember that this is not dog racing. Even the lower end horses cost thousands of dollars just to purchase. Then you include Stables, transportation, vet bills, horse shoes, grooming, food, trainers, and other things that go into owning a thourough bred, it ends up costing you thousands of dollars a month. And that is the lower end race horse. Why would someone want to abuse and or put their horse in danger, if they have that much invested into them.

None of the horses in the Derby besides Big Brown and possibly Recapturetheglory, the 5th place finisher, will run in the Preakness. Big Brown won't sit out. There's no way, he's too good. It's his to lose. I'd be extremely surprised to see Big Brown skip the Preakness and chance to win the Triple Crown and go down in history as one of the best horses ever.

We will see. It would be nice to see him in it. It would make for a easy Trifecta with a key on the 1st place horse. But I think we(the fans) are more worried about seeing a triple crown winner then the trainers, who will have to handle the backlash if they let a horse run too soon.

On a lighter note, Charokee, the Colt who was injured in the Kentucky Oats the day before the Derby, had a successful sugery and is recovering and eating as well. Charokee is trained by the same trainer as Barbaro was.

That's good news. It's always very sad to see a horse go down. Heading to churchill this weekend, wish me luck
