New HL - The Birth of a Sport

Hey everybody, after such a positive response from my last highlight (the Sakuraba HL "In One Night", about his no contest/win in Ultimate Japan) I thought I'd make another one about the oldschool. It started off as simply a highlight of the first four UFCs, but as it went along I couldn't help but focus on Royce. The first MMA event I ever witnessed just so happened to be UFC 1, I didn't see it in 93 mind you but I remember being at a friends house when he put it on. I originally didn't care to see it as I thought people would be breaking limbs and turning each others face into hamburger meat - however when he put it on and asked me who I bet would win out of that first matchup between Tuli and Gordeau (sp?), I instantly picked the big man - and after that fight the way I looked at fighting completely changed. After the whole event, I was a new man. With the highlight I just hoped to capture that innocence. Hopefully others out there like it.

Oh, and to note, the first shot zooming to earth - that is directed above the arena. I made the shot with After Effects and Google Maps satelite view. I figure most will think I stole it from a movie or something, so I wanted to point that out

Nice. Didn't get to see a lot of the early UFC footage so that was sweet. Also hearing Jim Brown commentate was cool.

What stands out to me about the early days was how horrible the referees were. I'm surprised not more people got hurt.

More music from Heat

I followed the link in your sig and I'm going to watch your Anderson and Rampage HL's, but when I tried to watch the Randy/Vitor HL, it said the video was deleted.

Just a heads up.

Lol @ Bill saying Royce "has nothing there" talking about the triangle.

Man, how perceptions change.

Haha, yeah, I actually had that Moby song because someone passed it along to me to add in a Highlight so I didn't realize where it was from but then when it was pointed out to me - I picked up the soundtrack

As for the Randy/Vitor, didn't know it was taken down - but it's for the best anyway. It was my first highlight and truthfully not my best. It had the Requiem For a Dream music (all you need to know right there!) in it and was me trying to use Adobe Premiere - a good idea, but not my best work so I'm going to recut it and come up with something new.

Thanks though everybody! And indeed, especially in that first UFC, the refs were pretty clueless and its understandable why Royce held his chokes the way he did.

Why was Royce yelling at Ken after the fight?
