I disagree. If Hansen had extended his left leg following Eddie's somersault and kept Eddie's back on the mat, his only option would've been the thumb escape (Franklin/Lutter) and by that time, Hansen would've taken his arm home with him.

For a visual, watch Sakuraba's armbar on Vernon White from PRIDE 2. If Hansen would've positioned his legs the way Sakuraba did following Vernon's roll, he would've most likely gotten the tap.

if you look though hansen's leg was in place against his own leg, he didn't chose to put it there it was his only choice and if he tried to transition his leg from that position eddie would have gotten out of it right then and there imo.

Who knows... but keeping his knee bent like that gave Alvarez an escape for sure. Just stating what I try to do and have been taught. Nothing is certain.
