I gotta be honest, I call BS on that costing $300. The camera they used itself probably cost more than that.

Anyway, the production and direction was insane. It was cool.

It was pretty cool but I feel like it was only epic because of the music from that zombie movie. I think it was "two weeks later" or something like that.

it looks like any other disaster film.
precious symbols destroyed.
people running and pointing.
had-held shakey cam work.
the fog, debris flying at the camera.
all played out.
figures hollywood would like it.

It is possible because he may have been a film school student and used the schools equipment because there is Adobe Aftereffects, 3D modeling tools could be 3D Max, Maia or even Blender. There is also tons of very high end stock footage used for the flames and the smoke from the distance I would image.

What makes this film stand out is the level of detail such as keeping the scale correct as they walk thought the City and such details as the camera work and the use of extras in almost all the shots as well as the music. Very well produced short film and yes Hollywood likely eats up this short film.

I'll bet anyone 100$ that Shia Lebeouf is in this movie.

And also, and this is just guess, wouldn't we also have to consider the exchange rate? I mean, I realize that some equipment and software might not vary much in price regardless of the country where you purchase it but there are certain aspects of the production that must be a lot cheaper to do in Uruguay than in the US.

On one hand it is awesome to see what smart people and small productions can make these days. On the other hand, I already saw War of the Worlds.
