Vulkan Pro Light Gi 2009 - Grappler's Connection/Nickhh

I know that Vulkan is very well known, and probably doesnt need another review, but I really wanted to share my thoughts on the Gi and also my experience with Nickhh from grapplers connection.

There will be more pics and reviews to come... First I want to say a HUGE thanks to Nickhh for his patience while I tried to figure out what gear I wanted/needed, and supplied me with his honest opinions of what is the best choice for me. Also, I paid on Friday and got my Gi this morning! Sure, I only live a state away, BUT STILL! On top of all this, he had KILLER pricing and hooked me up with a shirt! So seriously guys, hit up Nickhh for your Vulkan needs!

Pre-roll review:

My school is pretty much 90% Vulkan gear, so I was already pretty sure what to expect as far as looks, but no one has the blue. Very sharp! This is only my second gi, with my first being a Gameness Pearl. The first thing I thought was “holy shit, this thing is soft!” I don’t know if I am washing my Gameness wrong or something, but that thing is beyond words stiff. The Vulkan is so soft, I bet I could sleep in it! While still being very soft, the construction is nothing short of awesome. Doesn’t feel flimsy in the slightest bit, and the collar is just as thick if not thicker than my gameness, and nice and firm! Overall I have to say that it feels to be lighter than the gameness (any confirm weights?).

Needless to say I cannot wait to go to class tonight and give it a spin!

Post roll review to come in tomorrow morning. Here are some pics from my phone (sorry about the quality), please ignore the mess, I am preparing my 2010 budgets for work so the place is a mess! I will also get more p ics with measurements and all that later today!

I was originally talking to him about the ultra lights, but ultimately decided that the pro light was the better choice.

shoot, was just checking up on the sizing charts. I am afraid I may have gone too big with an a2. Vulkan says:
5'8"-6'1" | 170-200 | A-2
I am 5'8", 160lbs, and looking to compete at feather (so cutting to 150 or so)... I cant even get any work done, I just keep thinking about this lol. Anyone out there with a similar build try these Gi's? And they say they are 100% pre shrunk, ruh roh!

Stay tuned!

After Chris's review I am never recommending the ultra lights to any one who has played jiu jitsu longer than a few months lol.

As far as the sizing your height makes you an A2. It may be a little long but it shrinks a bit. You should be fine with an A2 (but might want to alter the sleeves).

Just an update. I rolled with the Pro Light last night, and I am still blown away by how comfy it was! Before rolling the gi fit very well with the sleeves coming maybe a 1/4" past my wrists and my pants hanging just above the tops of my feet. It was kinda humid last night so our gym got sticky real quick, thus lots of sweat. I didnt notice any issues with moisture in my gi (and I sweat a lot!) but the gi did stretch a bit, so the sleeves were now an inch past my wrist, and the pants kind of rested on the top of my feet.

I havent washed it yet (doing the vinaeger bath during lunch today), but threw it in the dryer this morning just to check it. Much to my delight, the sleeves were already a half inch behind my wrist, and the pants just above my feet. I am confident that with a full wash and then drying it will be perfect!

I am beyond pleased with this purchase, though I might order an A1 next time just to see the difference, and seeing that, as mentioned, I want to compete at feather, a smaller gi for my weight loss may be a better idea. All in all, its an awesome Gi and I am bummed I didnt get this as my first gi, though I may have been spoiled from the get-go!

So if you guys are in the market for a new gi, dont hesitate to check out the pro lights, and dont forget about nickhh!
