suggestions or recommendations on punching bags?

Not much of a fighter, if at all. I just do a lot of weightlifting, but i've become interested in developing some boxing skills. I don't have time to go a boxing gym or anything (preparing for LSAT's), but i'd be interested in having some boxing gear at home, just to practice some basic punching combinations and such.

I really have no idea how to approach buying any equipment, and i'd like some guidance. I live in an apartment, and would prefer equipment that wouldn't damage anything. Once again, i really don't know what i'm talking about. All in all, is there a good punching bag or speed bag (?) that i can get for under 50 dollars? Just something to punch besides air is all i'm asking for i guess.

Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

From what you have to work with it sounds like a free standing bag may be your best choice, although they are usually not that great of quality, you might be able to find a decent one at your local big 5 on sale for around that.

I don't think you can get anything you want for $50. It's gonna be about $100 for a heavbag and $150 for a cheaper heavybag stand. Check Ringside's website, sometimes you can get a good deal there and the equipment is great.

They sell everlast bags at walmart and sports authority for like $80 so you could check those out. And the last time I went to sports authority they had the standing and regular heavy bags sittin out on display so u could smack em around and see which u like better.

I bought a 100lb bag at Fleet Farm for like $50. I think it works great. I hung it from my ceiling in my garage. When I started Thai boxing it really helped to accelerate my striking. You'll need thicker gloves than the ones that they give you. You also may want to pad the bottom for kicks or wear shin guards.

You can always go on craigslist and search for a wavemaster (since obviously you don't want to damage anything to your apartment). I've seen them on sale as low as $50
