I cannot say enough good stuff about Starsguards. Jeff has been top notch from the beginning. He’s been quick with communication, and very friendly and reassuring during the whole process.
The impression kit was very straight forward and easy to use. It comes with 3 different size trays, and two tubes of putty, and a return pre-paid priority envelope. There are two full color pages of instructions on how to take your impression. It was a little intimidating at first, but I nailed it on the first try. I was concerned because I have all my wisdom teeth, and even the largest guard didn’t quite fit right. A quick PM to Jeff and my worries were resolved. Also, Jeff provides a phone number to answer any questions you have about the impression, and I think he even offers to walk you through it over the phone.
I mailed my impression kit on around the 15th or so. I basically let Jeff have free reign over the design. I just gave him the URL of my school and that was it. More or less it’s just a temporary guard til he perfects his 3D design and I get one.
I received my guard on 12/27. Less then two weeks turn around time including a major holiday. The guard looks great. It’s red, white, and blue with my school’s logo. The logo appears to be die cut vinyl between the layers. It’s a major step up from some other manufacturers who use paper between the layers for the design. As good as it looks, it feels even better. Even though it’s typical guard material, it feels like gel on the inside when I put it in my mouth. It’s super comfortable. No gag problem or anything. It fits snug, but not too tight. I absolutely love it, and can’t wait to wear it in training. The guard comes with a super nice, hard case. It has a large hole for a carabineer or other way to attach it to your gear bag, etc. A nice added touch is that the case has the same design/logo as the guard. One other nice touch is that my check wasn’t cashed until the guard was shipped.
For several months now, I’ve been mourning the demise of Protech. After getting this guard, I mourn the loss no more. There’s a new company in town, and I expect them to make big waves.
