I have had trouble contacting him as well after our initial contact. I originally requested 2 kits on 6/19 finally received one kit around 7/1. Had contact on 7/1 and they indicated that they could finish the first mouth piece by the end of this month if I sent the impression back to them immediately. However I and still waiting on the second kit to arrive and have not been able to confirm that they have received the first. So I am a bit concerned. I am still a month from original contact and I have not received the second kit to get the process kicked off.

Is this their SOP? I have heard many good things about the quality of the guards so I was willing to wait.

However because of a genuine concern from what has taken place so far, I placed a back up order with the FD simply because of the lack of communication and follow through so far.

This is no bashing by any mean, however I guess if this is how their process works I would have really appreciated a heads up to manage my expectations.

We will keep waiting to see how it all pans out. I live in Houston and am a firm believer of of supporting local businesses first.

by FD did you mean the fight dentist?

to be fair, jeff has been receiving hundreds of emails a day, and his business has grown exponentially over a very short period of time. that makes it very hard for him to get back to everyone in a timely manner. it's taken quite a while for me to go back and forth with jeff regarding my mouthguard, but based on the people who have reviewed his product, he IS the industry standard for mouthpieces.

i've had not so nice experiences with other mouthguard makers, and jeff always makes sure that i get what i want before he starts up making the guard. he makes sure to get things right before you even pay. i cant say that any other company would stick their neck out like that. because of that, jeff is my go to guy for guards.

Thank you for the reassurance. And Yes to answer your question. That is great to hear that Jeff is busy and his business is growing. Reading the reviews led me to having a stars guard made. His great quality and initial ability to give great customer service led to the growth of his company. Any growing business will experience a few bumps along the way, hopefully having some of this feedback (which I am sure he is already aware of) will make him even better if he can re-build the same business model as he started with when he had the ability to communicate well. His growth has apparently changed the communication part of that equation. I am still greatly awaiting the quality guard that the previous reviews have taunted.

I want to be singing his praise when I get the final product just as you are.

Thanks!!!

I want to start by thanking the Sherdog posters for being such a supportive and informed group of consumers. It makes our jobs MUCH easier.

We are VERY sorry for the delayed responses folks, we had no idea what the demand for our guards would be, and we never expected the business to grow this fast. We are not making excuses, rather, an explanation.

Most of you have been VERY patient with us, and for that we are extremely grateful.

We refuse to simply "rush" though orders, your guards are 100%, one-off, customs, there will not be another person in the world that has a guard identical to yours.

We like to take our time to work through your custom graphics requests to be sure that you will be 100% satisfied, again, not offering excuses, but an explanation, we thank everyone for the support and want to assure you we will get things back on track very quickly, we had a couple personnel issues that have been recently resolved.

Great things in store for the MMA community!

Thanks for the updates guys.. I thought i would pass this along as well. When i was checking into mouth guard companies i watered it down to Starsguards and Jawzz. When i emailed Jawzz about a guard this is what they emailed back.

Mark,

As of right now, we are shut down. This is due to new state laws. We are
working on getting everything straitened out. I'm sure Jeff at starsguards
can re-produce that guard. If not, try fightdentist.com.

Thanks
Matt
Jawzz, Inc.

Just an FYI. that email was returned to me on June 24th-08. I don't know if Jawzz back up and running yet or not but thats gotta put a lot more work on Jeff's shoulders.

Since some of you are having problems contacting the other companies, you can also give Smartguards.ca a try. They're a great custom guard company too, even though they don't get as much exposure and plugs as Smartguards or Jawzz on these boards.
