Big Guy Review - Kikskin Kompetitor

If you've read my other reviews in this forum you might be asking yourself what the hell this moron is doing buying yet another gi. Besides echoing my wife, you're asking a valid question. I'll just say I have a gear-buying problem as will be evidenced again when I post my next review on the Gameness Platinum Weave I also bought .

My Dimensions:
6'5"
245 lbs.
I have a relatively shorter torso and longer legs. I have a slighter frame and I am hoping to lose some weight -- around 25 lbs at least.

I ordered this gi along with the gameness from SSF. My experience ordering from them wasn't great at first because as Ron told me later they had a personal issue that required their immediate attention. Once he emailed me back his customer service was great. He responded to all my emails promptly. I would definitely order from SSF again.

I ordered an A5 per Ron's advice and I was a little shocked when I received the gi. I thought it would be bigger than it was. It was definitely the right move to order up a size with this gi. I wouldn't recommend this gi if you're a barrel chested guy.

I shrank the gi down by putting it in the dryer on high for about 30 minutes. Once I did this the pants and the top fit great. I should say that this top fit much different than my other gis. The gi doesn't wrap nearly as much which I was kind of scared of at first but I really liked the first time I rolled in it.

Here's a picture of the top (post-shrinkage):

The patch on the front of the gi is the only patch on the entire gi. I really liked this because it didn't give me the impression I was a walking billboard.

Here's a picture of the collar (I've added a pen to give perspective):

I was really impressed with the thickness of the collar. It's not quite as thick as the Gameness (I don't know what can be as thick as that damn thing) but it's still nice.

Here are the pants:

The rope is really nice. I like it a lot better than the fabric tie on the Vulkan and Koral.

I do want to comment on the embroidered logos on the gi. They're just cool. I wouldn't have any problem taking the patch off and kicking it with those logos.

I've rolled in this gi once so far and I have to say it is really nice. Even though they bill it as a gold weave I didn't feel hot at all. It was definitely heavier than my Vulkan but I didn't feel hotter in it. There wasn't a seam in the back of the top either which was great. The sleeves and pants have this extra stiff fabric on the ends which makes them a little tougher to grab. I would feel comfortable wearing this gi in a competition.

I would definitely recommend this gi to anyone looking. I have a feeling this gi is going to become a standard for how most gis should fit.

Sorry I didn't include pictures of myself in this gi. When I was taking pictures at the time my wife was sleeping in our room where the mirror is. I'll include some later.

this is not goldweave, its soft weave

My platnium was too in the mailbox, BUT i think the kikskin have a better collar.

Thats my list of kimonos!

p.S.: I've gotta roll first in my new kimono, but think thats what it stay like

I just rolled with my Kikskin in my first tournament today and it was awesome. I would definitely recommend it as a competition kimono.

Yeah, I machine dried it but the sleeves aren't too short. I'm learning to like them shorter like that.
