SAW Comp Shorts and Cup Review w/ photos

My first impression of this cup upon receipt was that it's much larger in overall size than any I've used, but has a very sturdy and well-structured feel. The cup itself is made entirely of a softer-feeling type of rubber that while maintaining its constructed form, bends with pressure. I love the compression shorts due to their increased leg length(coming almost to the knee) and firmer-feeling support in the thighs. The color seperation is actually a seam of 2 pieces of material fastened with durable stitching, although I think this may lead to durability issues down the road. The stitching is wonderful on the shorts, only having 2 loose threads.

I rolled with the cup the day I got it and loved the feel. It actually bends with my hips as I swivel in my guard and felt firmly in place while working in rubber guard. I was struck twice in the gonads while rolling with a whitebelt and was surprised how well the cup absorbed the impact. I even let my girlfriend have a few free shots when I got home from the gym, it works great. The cup doesn't pinch my thighs no matter the angle(I'm a pretty flexible dude), it felt firmly in place, it is incredibly breathable(lowering my stink-to-sweat ratio), and ultimately met all my expectations. The only thing to determine now is its durability, so I'll update this thread with any news on the winkie armor.

**The strip of plastic down the middle acts as a spine allowing a large range of motion for the flexing effect of the cup to benefit its wearer.

**Compared to a pair of Nike compression Shorts, size Medium

I would definately reccomend this product to anyone wanting a flexing cup that still provides projectile protection; it's the most comfortable groin protector I've ever used. This cup/comp short package can be found at Spider Guard Protection : Sick Gear from SickBrands.com, Inspired by the warrior. Created for the athlete.

Wow very cool looking cup and shorts.
Quick question, do the shorts have a cup pocket?
Didn't find anything about it on their website.

Very interesting looking cup. Did you have any other cups to do some comparison shots at all?

Thank you for the review to

Nice review. Do the compression shorts come separately? That was the main reason I haven't purchased the Jacos yet...

it looks cool, but also very dangerous. i wouldn't want that piece of alloy impaling my bladder. it looks like you get light protection. you give up the amount of protection for comfort.

Yea, the comp shorts have a pocket for the cup and the two come as a set. I apparently purchased mine right before they released a new version of the cup; the customer service dept emailed me explaining that a machine change over is what caused a minor delay in shipping.

We had a machine change over last week that shut us down. the good news is we now have an even stronger more flexible cup than before in a CLEAR version.

Sorry for the delay..we just started shipping again, but it was essential to ensure to provide the best quality.

I'll get some detailed pics of the comp shorts up tomorrow. My only real concern is, as I said before, the stitching on the shorts. It seams a bit understitched for the complexity of design and tight fit of the cup when placed in the pocket. Although they are honestly the most comfortable and supportive comp shorts I've worn. Keep in mind I'm long-limbed.

I lost my other 2 cups in the move so I'll measure the cup and post it's size specs along with the comp short pics. I'd say the reduced sturdiness comes as a plus in mma as not too many kicks are thrown to the groin by more seasoned martial artists and grappling has lacked a design-specific cup since its inception(I'll never wear a banana raft again!). Like I said, no full on leg kicks yet, but wednesday morning will be the true test as I spar with other MT nubs.

After some use, I like the fit of the comp shorts but know they lack durability. The groin protector is AWESOME. I've taken knees to the groin from MT sparring, white belt guard passing drills, and the terrible half-guard "hump" and no direct damage was dealt except for one time when I was wearing the cup too high and it smooshed one of my twins. The hard plastic spine is what provides rigidity while the firmly flexible webbed cup twists with my hips and thighs. It also fits in both kinds of UA comp shorts I've got from playing football (tight fit tho).

I'd highly recommend this cup to anyone like myself who uses their legs like arms and frequently has pressure put on the boys. My only dislike is when I armbar from anywhere but my guard I feel more pressure than I'd like. It's tolerable discomfort, but I'd prefer none at all obviously.
