Review: Jawzz Pro Heavy Mouthguard and Jawzz adult size mouthguard.

I have a thread in the G&E section titled "need a mouthguard for a fight in a month" and promised everyone on that thread a review. First, I'd like to say that when I was searching for a company, I narrowed it down to Jawzz and Smartguard based on reputation after learning of the numerous Protech fiascos. I decided to go with Jawzz because they are based in the States and I knew it would be easier to deal with them if I made any mistakes throughout the process. I decided to buy two, a thick pro heavy mouthguard for striking and mma, and an adult model mouthguard(a bit thinner) for everyday grappling.

I first contacted Jawzz in late September and spoke with Kim. She was helpful throughout the ordering process and sent out my impression kit that same day. I received it in 3 business days, made my impression, and sent it back. It turns out I made a bad impression on my first go round by scraping across the front of the mould, so they sent me another impression kit free of charge, which also included my first impression and a description of where I made a mistake. This helped me fix it during the next go round. All told, it took me about 2 1/2 weeks to get it right. Kim was in constant contact with me through e-mails, letting me know when the impression kits were sent, when to expect them, what to expect when I received them, etc. All in all, it took a month for me to receive my guards. It would have been a week or two sooner had I not screwed up my first impression.

I received my mouthguards yesterday, which was perfect timing because I had a fight that night. I must say, I am EXTREMELY pleased with my product. The pro heavy model(tri-color) which I used in the fight stayed firmly attached to my top teeth without causing annoying pressure, and when I took a few shots during the fight, it really did make a difference having a custom guard. The design on the front of the guards turned out nicely and Jawzz was very helpful and open to design suggestions. I also rolled with my adult model guard(black) and it was terrific. It feels slightly less bulky than my pro heavy model, which will be great for everyday use.

Overall, I give Jawzz a 10/10 and would recommend them to any fighter. I will post pics when I get them up on photobucket.

This is the Pro Heavy model:

Sorry about the image quality on the last one and on my next post. I took these pics at night in my house, so the lighting isn't that great.

Here's the Adult model I'm gonna use for grappling and light sparring.

One again, sorry about the image quality. If I can I'll take some better pics and post those at some point and erase these. Sorry bout my ugly mug as well. ;)

It's thai, pronounced taglaew, though it's hard to spell phonetically. As a verb, it means roughly 'be brave' or 'be courageous.' As a noun it roughly translates to "warrior."

Well that sold me, definitely going to get a Jawzz guard.

Just need to get these stupid dental wires out first I guess.. or does anyone know if having a retainer wire behind my front teeth will make it impossible to fit a custom guard?

indi is your wire just a fine wire which is glued to the back of your front teeth? Is it perminant or temp?

I have a perminant wire behind my front teeth that i will have forever and the custom kit i got from opro works fine and i should have my guard soon.

If you are concerned just email the people you decide to get your guard from.

Yeah it's just a fine wire that's glued in place. To be honest I'm not sure how long it's supposed to be in for. I've had it in for maybe 10 years now. I can't remember whether it was supposed to be permenant, or just until my mid 20's when my teeth stopped growing/moving. I should probably call my Ortho and clarify that.

yeah I have had mine on for about 3 years now and I was told I could have it taken off when i wanted after a year but keeping it on would keep my teeth secure with no possible movement which I went for as I am not pying again if they move hehe.

But a call to your ortho may sort this out for you. As I say i have no problem taking the impression and they have it and say its fine and I will have my guard soon
