Here is a review I just wrote on this DVD:
I just finished watching Keith Owen’s newest BJJ instructional Release “Keith Owen - Favorite Moves Volume 2”. This instructional DVD is a compilation of Keith Owen’s favorite techniques that he uses personally and successfully. There are many great things in this video not only from a technique standpoint, but from a concept stand point.
With each chapter, he explains the little details of the technique and most importantly why you are doing that technique in regards to a particular situation. This isn’t a generic instructional video where the instructor goes through the technique without any thought. Keith Owen makes sure you not only know the technique, but also the reason behind it.
In the start of the video you have 3 options to choose from:
- Play All – This just starts the video from the point of where the actual video begins and continues on. I believe the S-Mount section is the first section in the “Play All” option.
- Chapters By Position – This section lets you choose the techniques you want to watch from different positions. You’ll see the position and then the list of corresponding techniques under the positions, in which you can select. This in my opinion is a great idea and is especially important to have with a DVD instructional that is a compilation of many different techniques from many different positions. The positions are listed below:
- Back Mount – 2 sections
- Escapes – 2 sections
- Guard – 6 sections
- Half Guard – 4 sections
- Mount – 1 section
- Side Control (Bottom) – 1 section
- Side Control (Top) – 2 sections
- Turtle – 5 sections
- Chapters in Alphabetical Order – With this option you can see the list of sections in alphabetical order.
Now according to the chapters you have 23 sections. Don’t be fooled, they are not just 23 techniques. There are many different variations within many of the different sections of the DVD. I believe in total I counted about 46 techniques and variations on the DVD. That is an awesome amount of techniques for a great instructional video that only costs $24.95. So that would average out to only $0.54 a technique. That’s a great deal in my opinion.
Here are the sections listed next to each section is how many technique/variations I saw within that section.
- S-Mount – 4 Variations (This is a great section)
- Baseball Bat Choke – 4 Variations (Some cool variations)
- Modified Scarf Hold Escape – 1 Variation
- Passing Guard Knee Pin – 2 Variations
- Side Control to Mount – 5 Variations (This was one of my favorite sections with 1 particular variation that I’ve never seen before that I’m sure to try very soon.)
- Back Mount Strangle – 3 Variations
- Guard Cross Choke – 2 Variations (This section was the longest and has a great amount of detail to effectively getting the cross choke from the guard)
- Half Guard to Side Control (Using the Ball and Chain Position) – 1 Variation
- Triangle Escape - 1 Variations (Keith shows one of my favorite triangle escapes and what I feel is the higher percentage option.)
- Kimura Options – 7 Variations (A lot of great details in this section)
- Kimura Escape – 1 Variation
- Guard Pass with Gi Controlling the Arm – 1 Variation ( A great pass variation)
- Turtle to Side Control Choke - 1 Variation
- Getting Turtle Hook In – 1 Variation (This is a technique I’ve never seen before)
- Half Guard Moves – 3 Variations
- Half Guard Pass Against Z-Half Guard – 1 Variation (This is a technique that I’ve never seen before show this way and it looks really good…I’m going to try this very soon.)
- Double Under Leg Pass Counters - 2 Variations
- Kimura From Guard – 1 Variation
- North South Turtle Flip to Choke – 1 Variation
- North South Turtle Choke Escape - 1 Variation (He shows how to defend and escape from the common loop choke hand position)
- Rear Naked Choke Variations – 2 Variation
- Half Guard Escape Roll – 1 Variation
- Turtle Spin Counter – 1 Variation
As you can see there is a lot of information from many areas in this DVD. The video quality and production is top notch and extremely professional. In the DVD there is use of multiple camera angles which is very helpful in getting a better understanding of the techniques and no time wasters of the instructor repositioning on camera.
Keith Owen is a great instructor. His voice is very clear and his instruction is very detailed. As stated earlier he doesn’t just go through the motions. He makes sure that he explains how and why the technique is going to be applied. I could just imagine how his live classes are. If I’m ever in his area I’m definitely stopping by his school to learn some cool new tricks from him.
The price of the DVD is a steal at $24.95. I recommend that everyone pick up this video. All levels can learn from this video also from beginner to advanced.
You can find the DVD at
www.bjjmoves.com along with Keith’s first DVD “Favorite Moves Vol 1.”, which is also great.
I look forward to more products from Keith Owen as I expect them to be of high quality just like his current products.
I approve of all Keith Owen’s products!
