Review: Datsusara gear bag.

After reading about some $120 gear bag on the very day my $60 Calpack bag ripped I figured it was a sign or something. I am by no means rich but I spent $60 on a gear bag that lasted a little less than a year and this was a year I did not train much due to injury. I figured spending double that but having a product that lasted much, much longer it would be worth it (much better than spending $60 again and again).

I knew from reading about hemp in the past that it was a very durable fiber (4x stronger than cotton). On top of that the bag is geared specifically for mma gear. There are pockets on the side that fit; a mouthguard, 4 oz gloves (two pockets like this), cell phone, and 1 for your wallet. It also has two big compartments (one on each end). In these you can fit a pair of boxing gloves if you chose too. On the outside there are a couple of mesh compartments which could be used for water bottles or sweaty gear that you don't want to put in the bag. You needn't worry about putting sweaty gear in the bag though cause it is anti-microbial and hemp breathes very well.

My initial impression when the bag arrived (I ordered it on Wednesday night in WA and it was on my doorstep Saturday) was that it is huge! The shoulder strap is very nice which since my old bag had many issues regarding that it's important to me. It is adjustable on both ends and has a very secure latching system (the main issue with my last bag was the shoulder strap constantly coming undone). I have fit a lot of gear in here (1x boxing glove, 1x bag gloves, 3x mma gloves, 3x shin guards, 2x groin cup, 3x ankle supporters, 1x mouthguard, 3x handwraps and I still have nothing in the end compartments) and still have the end compartments to put shorts and rashguards.

The materials and zippers are all top notch. I have pulled on the bag and it has a little stretch but is strong as hell. I haven't gotten to use it much yet but I really think this bag will last for years with no issue.

Is this bag for everyone? Probably not at $120 it is expensive but it's not outrageous by any means. I would definitely recommend it to anybody that is serious about training and will stick with it for any length of time.

photos.....................?

I'd get one if:

a) I was not concerned about getting hemp products through Australian customs, i dont know if it would get through

b) it wasnt so expensive. I refuse to pay more for a gear bag when I have things in their that costs less including top quality BJJ gis.

There is a logo but it is black on black, very subtle. There is nothing I don't like about this bag.
