REVIEW - Clinch Gear NEW Primo Hendo Board Shorts!

REVIEW - Clinch Gear Primo Hendo Boardshort / Fightshort

Price: $59.95

So, Aaron from Clinch Gear gave me a chance to review these new models and I am very appreciative for that. I was the first person on Sherdog to review the original Clinch Gear models back what, ugh a few years ago now, time flies - you can read that review by clicking here. Anyways onto the review.

I don't really have a dedicated system for my short reviews because some have different features worth mentioning than others, some (few) don't have stretch panels, so I can't talk about those, so I will just flow with it and see what insight I can give you.

Okay so you get alot of the technical aspects in the first pic I posted from the Clinch Gear website, so I'll get into my personal opinions about these shorts.

General Thoughts

These Clinch Gear shorts rival Tapout or HCK (HCK being lightest) as one of the lighter fightshorts on the market. The material is durable, and very light. It doesn't have a stretchiness to it like other models, but that is rarely needed and is usually a individualized to the companies style. It's a polyester microfiber so it is designed to be durable yet lightweight. I believe Tapout use a similar fiber in some of their shorts but not all.

The side panels are made out of the same kind of stretch material found in Truth shorts, or Sprawl shorts for that matter. Very flexible, very durable no problems.

Stitching

Everything on these shorts is triple stitched like alot of MMA fight shorts now adays. Well most of the important parts are, the rest is either double or single stitch. I have used these heavy for about 2-3 weeks now, washing them everyday so you get the idea of how much I put them through. I have grappled only a few times but have had no issues with the stitching, except in a select few places, at the base of the split seem/side panel I had a lose thread which HAD to be pinned down, or would unravel the whole leg (was a big concern) and I think I had an issue on the leg side of the other shorts. This was like that when I recieved them.

Oh and note, I recieved these shorts and the Classic Shorts, the only difference is that the Primo Hendo's have a split in the flex panel, whilst the classics do not. We will focus on the Hendo model for this review.

Other than there has been no issues as far as prolonged use so far when it concerns the stitching. I assume this was just an unluckiness with my pair.

Overall, 9/10 for stitching. Only because I had some loose ones which would of been detrimental to roll in if they got caught and unravelled everything.

Closure System - My camera has been the suck lately, but the closure system has not change since the first model, you can see detailed pictures here from my first review, but you can figure it out yourself.

Basically it is a 3 way system velcro system, and in my opinion one of the better systems out there for closure. There is relatively no chance that they will un-velcro mid-fight, mid-grapple or anything so no problems with those.

Overall 10/10 for closure system. I wonder how it compares to the new Sprawls without the rubber logo, I haven't tried a pair yet. I would assume they feel good, the old sprawls can tend to make you feel uncomfortable at times with the logo digging in, so I like these with embroidered logos and no rubbers.

REVIEW - Clinch Gear Primo Hendo Boardshort / Fightshort - Continued

Flexibility

As mentioned there is a flex panel underneath which is a multidirectional crotch flex panel. I've always been a fan of this, and it has provided unrivalled movement when working my guard game and also no problems for splits or highkicks.

There are also 2 panels on the side, same material and both work well and serve their purpose, so I cannot complain.

I tried demonstrating the stretchiness by holding it with my foot, and pulling with my other hand while the camera takes the shot. ^_^;;;

Overall 10/10 for flexibility. No problems at all.

True to size?

One thing of note right now, is that these shorts do fit a little different. I am a 32, and these fit like a 33inch. So if you are losing weight, do order a size down, but in general order a size down cause these run about 1 size up in my oppinion.

Things I would change...

1. The length is good, but I would have them run maybe 1 inch longer, I like mine to go onto the knee or below the knee but that is just me. Some people like their shorts to sit just above the knee, which these do.

2. I would make the crotch run a bit further down. I do not know if I just have bigger parts than everyone else X_X or if it's another reason but I felt a bit constricted with these on with just like form fitting vale-tudo shorts/bike shorts/compression shorts underneath. It gets a big tight with compression shorts and a cup too. I do have tree trunk legs though so.

3. A drawstring, as I have lost about 4kgs since I started training with these shorts it makes them hard to keep in your waist, and would be problematic to people cutting weight or losing weight as their waist will shrink.

4. a pocket, somewhere. I know people have issues with toes getting caught or other shit, I personally havent, I like internal pockets for mouthguards, or outside pockets too, but if things get caught I can understand designers not having them. This is just me, probably not a mainstream thing.

Overall though, I am quite happy with the improvements on these models as far as material and split seems and such. As an alternative to all the other big brands these are very recommended. I can't list them with the big boys YET because they do need a drawstring, if it will be an future model I do not know. They are still functional and great but I recommend another model if you are like me and are losing weight.

Otherwise though, the shorts kickass, they're lightweight, they do not inhibit motion or movement, and it has Dan Henderson's signature on the back, which is always cool ^_^

Overall rating of 9/10.

If you'd like any other pics let me know, my camera is shitting itself but I can use my camera phone if it's important. Any questions or queries are welcome as usual.

One thing worthy of note when I dry these in the washing machine, like my TRUTH shorts little fluff balls seem to get attracted to this kind of polyester. It seems to have died down after a week though but still.

So, when compared to other shorts in the 60$ price range (Inspirit, Hitman) are they superior to them? They do look nice but to me they are a bit expensive. And I don't like my clothes to have anyones signature

if you're wearing a t shirt the signature isn't visible.

Can you feel the seams of the crotch panel on the inside of your thighs/back of your rump/front of your junk while rolling?
