Questions concerning gi measurements and quality / Where to get Lucky's Marcelo G
Hello everyone, brand new member here
I've been doing submission wrestling for about three years, and now I'm switching over to BJJ. I've been using an A3 sized Krugan's Gladiator gi for a while now, since I got it from a friend for free, but I think the time has come for me to get a new, proper suit that would actually fit me.
Yeah, I tried to do research on different manufacturers, but all I found was loads of contradictory info. For example, the Keiko gis are apparently better for "tall, slim players", yet Marcelo Garcia used to use them? And loads of people recommend Vulkan as "fitting small guys very well", but a friend of my size bought an A2 Vulkan and it's way too big for him.
I'm 170cm (5ft 7in) / 77-80 kg (176lb), so I'm somewhat in-between sizes. I would prefer the gi to be expensive and as good quality as they come, so as to make it long-lasting. I don't mind spending money on the hobbies I love.
I've been told good things about the new Ultra Light Vulkan, but as it turns out, I'm just in-between sizes and I have no clue which one, A2 or A1, to go for (or where to buy it, for that matter). I would rather have the gi fit nigh perfectly without much playing around with shrinking and whatnot. Also I heard this gi was a particularly poor choice competition-wise due to how easy it is to grip?
Mostly I have been drooling over the Marcelo Garcia Lucky Gi, as I suppose A2 would be a rather perfect fit for me (I'm exactly his size), but I have no idea where to order it from, as I would suppose not all internet stores deliver to Finland. OTM doesn't seem to deliver here either.
So, if you guys can recommend anything; either internet stores that shop to Europe, or awesome gis for someone my size, I'm more than open to suggestions.
Also are the differences as big as some people claim, performance-wise? I find it dubious - to say the least - that wearing a "worse" gi would make you feel like "a belt rank lower". Also, is it better to get a gi according to height/sleeves, or weight recommendations? IBJJF seems to suggest that for competitions, when you put your arms forward, the gi should touch your wrist, but I rarely see anyone grappling with a gi that long?
Thanks in advance, guys and girls.
EDIT: Apparently this is the wrong section; I meant to post in Discussion and not Reviews. Sorry. I suppose a mod will move this.
