NOGI Rash Gaurd (white)

Well I’ve finally gotten around to my review of NOGI’s rashgaurd that I purchased long with my SSF grappling shorts(review of shorts SSF Grappling Shorts)

Since a lot of people won’t want to spend time reading the shorts review I’ll briefly lay out my experience with the ordering itself. I went to www.SSFGEAR.com. I was actually looking for a source for another xfgear rashie. I had been eying the white rashgaurd with the American flag on the back for awhile but due to the problems that company seems to be /still having I couldn’t find one. SO I saw the NOGI long sleeve rashgaurd. The picture on the web was of a black on with white stitching. Next to I was a short sleeve in white with white stitching and black logos. I ended up getting a long sleeve in white. I received it shortly as has been the case with SSF each time I have ordered from them.

After opening the package I noticed that the logos were crisp and sharp. There was a big logo on the chest and another running vertically along my left kidney. The only other markings were an “O” on the back of the neck, and an inside a manufactures tag. A quick fit and I was in business. The color was not as white I as I had pictured from the photos but had a silver tone to it. It also has a sort shimmer to it as well

Now I have said many time that I am not a huge fan of tight fit rashgaurds but until someone comes out with a loose fit besides SPRAWL I’ll have to buy tight. I refuse to own indentical multiples of $40 rashgaurds. Seems like I should just do laundry more.

The fit on this XL was OK. I thirst thing I noticed was that the collar was slightly higher than my other rashies or UA products. Not quite a mock turtle but not a crew neck either. I thought the fabric was soft and I didn’t notice the logos at all. There was a little more give to the fabric than my Xfgear or UA tight fits. And there was a little more space across the chest than other rashies I‘ve seen. Now my XFGear I have to reach over my head in order to pull off the NOGI I was able to pull off like a normal shirt.

So I took my new purchase to the gym. I was able to spend lots of time on my back in this rashie and I didn’t notice the logos on the shirt at all. The sleeves were plenty tight even on my toothpick like arms and they taper down to the wrist. Many people were able to submit me with no inference by the rashgaurd. I was able to be tapped by arm bars, kirmuras, keylocks, triangles, and all sorts of other chokes and submissions. At no time did the rashguard prevent any one from destroying me. Of course this was all my fault once again.

The shirt does become semi-transparent when it becomes wet, on beautiful women a good thing on my fat butt don’t so much.

Now 2 months later the shirt is still in fine shape. The only logo that has started to peel is the “O” on the back of the neck, which actually felt different from the start. There is very little snagging from Velcro compaired to my other rashies. The seams are still all intact. The shirt has taken on an even more silver hue. Not sure what that is about but it’s not something that is troublesome to me.

I like and will continue to wear this rashgaurd. I rank it higher than my xfgear but still below my sprawl loose fit, which has nothing to do with the function of the shirt itself but on appearance alone(the sprawl hides the love handles, the nogi in white does not). The above pictures show the rashie after about 2 hours of work out and as you can see it does become semi transparent. The shorts are SSF’s as are the Gloves in the picture.

The one thing I really liek about this rashie is tha no matter how soaked I get wearing it I never feel wet or heavy in it

I like the fit just a little better, as you can see there is just a little extra room through the chest and shoulders, This doesn't really matter until you try to take it off.

My xfgear is so tight through the arms that I have to reach back over my head and pull the back up and over to get it off because I can't slip my arms out.

I've noticed that UA rash guards don't have too much moisture wicking so the sweat clings to your body and keeps you warm. With grappling rash guards the moisture wicking helps keep you cool but also tends to transfer the sweat to your opponent and matt.

Where does the Nogi fall in your opinion, I would think a tight fit top should transfer more sweat to others, I'm jsut wondering if you cn confirm this. Or perhaps you have entirely different experiences.

All of them get others all sweaty. I've worn UA heat gear to class and the mat is wet when I get up. The loose fit sprawl which is another favorite also soaks the mat with sweat. So if your working hard theres not much differnce in sweat transfer. However I don't feel that nasty wet T-Shirt feeling in either the rashies or the UA

Okay, thanks for the info. I've had some UAs and the semi loose fit one did transfer sweat on the may but not as much. It seemed to cling to the inside and then run down the bottom of the shirt. It would pool in my back and if I stood it trails of sweat ran down and got my shorts drenched.

I have a gray Nogi rashguard. Love it. The stitching is nice and tough. So much better than the UA stuff I have.

Through 10 months of use/abuse this product has served me well.

This rashie has less pilling than any of my others. However the front logo is now mostly missing. Not a functional problem.

So, the rashguard graphics are not even sublimated? They freaking peel off? That's BS.

I bought a pair of Nogi shorts that were total pieces of crap. Well, not total. But every bit of velcro on them failed. Far poorer quality than even run-of-the-mill Billabong board shorts.
