Right,I am back online again,a week later than originally planned but hey, shit happens, right?
I got the opportunity to finally roll/train in these gloves but only for grappling with strikes and a little bit of light stand up no pad or bag work as yet I am afraid, possibly tomorrow, depends upon what I decide to teach...
Okay, these are actually comfier on,without any breaking in than the Fairtexs are! When I trained in the Fairtexs to start with it took a few sessions until they softened up enough. These felt fine straight off the bat.We were playing with figure 4/kimuras etc and they were great, not getting caught up or being any problems trying to put them on whilst jockeying for position. We played with them with guard escapes/side control escapes using strikes.I had a big guy on top and although I was aware of being hit it was quite tolerable and not as much impact that I would normally expect to take from the guy who was punching. So they work well in that respect. We did a little stand up sparring(I got caught a couple of times-rusty after not training recently!).Again no problems with that either. Not going full bore but even so it wasnt a problem.
One of the guys that I teach said that he preferred the straps upon another pair of gloves that he normally uses(we were not using wraps) which he feels give him more support but he has notoriouslly weak wrists.I had no problems and I dont think that the strap on these is an issue. The other guy had no other complaints about the gloves but he is used to another style of gloves with less padding nad not this type.I think after a couple of sessions with these he would happily switch especially as his partners will be grateful to him.....
The thumb straps do leach out some black ink but that will calm down soon and you guys know how to use soap, right?Plus you always seem to get that with new dyed products anyway.
Just as an observation the thumb pieces are a tiny bit bigger/wider(the outside bit) than the Fairtexs. It does not make any difference to the glove as far as I can tell but its just an observation, its only a tiny bit bigger.
I would highly recommend these gloves to anyone looking for a good inexpensive Shooto style glove.I'll update after training pads if you guys want.
