My Own Jaco Compression Shorts Review

Pros:

First impression of the shorts, I was really impress by the design before even wearing the short I noticed the amount of detail that was put in designing the shorts. I mainly train BJJ, so most of my experienced for this review is about 90 percent BJJ (with gi).
My biggest gripe with nut protector is that it just doesn't stay in place, I've own Shock Doctor, Nutty Buddy, and XO. I'd have to say XO was my fav out of all of them up until I tried on Jaco. I was really impress with the shorts/cup ability to stay in place even if in those times when sparring gets a little rough. Protection from the cup is really good.... I haven't taken any strikes but have been kneed in the from rolling around and the cup did what it was supposed to do. What sets this cup apart is the adjustability from the velcro system attached in the front and rear of the shorts. Those velcro makes a hell of a lot of difference in keeping the cup in place.

Cons:

I'd have to say the price for most people, but if you want a cup that is comfortable, and will actually stay in place. I firmly believe that its well worth the price. Also I hope that Jaco offers different sizes for the cup and a softer rubber (where the bottom part of the cup actually touches your skin)... That is what I love about my XO cup... I mean its not a big deal really but I just miss that part from my XO. Also its a pain taking the cup off the shorts if you want to take them off.

Verdict: I think that Jaco hits the spot on this compression shorts... I've worn the shorts for about 6 classes and I can honestly say Jaco is my favorite compression shorts. After wasting my hard earned cash buying other cups (that is anything but my Jaco and XO) I think I found the right company and products to splurge on when I can. I mean the quality of the products surpassed all my expectations these guys and gals from Jaco goes above and beyond their customer service. I can only wish that other companies can learn from them. Which bring me to my next point-customer service.

Customer Service:

I don't think I ever dealt..... well let me say that again since KOfightgear and Datsusara have an amazing customer service. But its rare to find companies that will back up their product as much as Jaco (and all the mentioned companies up there). Prime example, I had some issues with my Jaco Resurgence shorts a while back and it wasn't even their fault. I just happened to mentioned my situation with Gabriel and he immediately offered to fix the problem with the shorts. Not only that he even told me that if I am unhappy with the shorts they offer money back guaranty along that includes the shipping fee! I mean c'mon how many company do that kind of stuff today? From then on I know Jaco is on the top of my list of companies I will spend my money on and I will make sure to pass the word about their great product.

Conclusion:

The $80 is well worth the money for these shorts. If you think that protecting your beloved nuts is only worth 10-15 bucks, by all means help yourself to all those products. But if you think that paying the extra dough so that you don't have to worry about your gear not working properly then do what I did and get yourself these shorts.

TS, Can the compression shorts be purchased seperatley from the cup. I mean I train 4-5 days a week and really don't want to have to wash the shorts everyday which would be a huge pain in the arse as well as it would raise my utility bills. I checked the website and could not find the compression shorts without the cup. This just seems like a logical option for people who train daily or twice in a day. Sweat soaked compression shorts are not too comfy the second go around.

I don't think so... I checked their website and it doesn't seem to be available separately. But I was just thinking of that when I did the review but maybe we can talk Jaco into selling it separately from the cup since it only makes sense only have one cup and multiple shorts.

I'm in for getting them to sell the shorts on their own. I'd be more apt to drop the cash to try out the cup if I thought I would use it. I can't say I would use the system regularly if it depended on me doing laundry everyday and if I'm not likely to use it, I'm not likely to buy it. I find it amusing that they wouldn't have thought of this or maybe it's a clever marketing ploy to get people to purchase the cup for a rediculous amount of money, realize the problem, then in the 2010 collection, the comp shorts are offered on their own for near the same price as the comp/cup combo. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Just a thought.

At that price it better give me a blowjob after training.
That is a lot for a cup and compression shorts combo.

This is more of a general comment: With all do respect, I must say that I some times have a hard time trusting the conclusions of people who got freebees on the condition that they post a review. I'm sure you're doing your best to write an honest review and I don't want to single you out (if I got the chance I'd say yes as well), but the value evaluation tends to be screwed up a bit. I mean, this is a positive review, but at $80 it better be the second coming of the cup/shorts combo as the standard Shock Doctor equivalent only costs $25. Jaco is asking more than three times that price.

that said, I very much appreciate the fact that you wrote that you didn't pay for this equipment yourself.

Guardian MMA Compression Short & Athletic Cup Protection System - Jaco Clothing

I'm curious about the leg padding/protection, and how it works. I'm sure that accounts for some of the high price, though for some people (i.e. training only BJJ) it may not be a useful feature.

Thanks for the review Nicky !!

As for the question about bais? I have always told people I send gear to to give me the good and bad points. I would hope everyone that does a review would be blunt and to the point. We could never make changes or adjustments to our product to make them better if no one ever finds the flaws.

As for the seperation of the components of the compression shorts you get alot more items for the 80 bucks you will spend. The padding is to protect your legs while training Also the compression shorts are antibacterial and hypoalergenic so it protects from rash and infection. The cup however is competly removeable and I can tell you eventually we will offer all the items for purchase seperatly for all you people out there.

I just received my Jaco compression shorts today. I will say that they seem to be high quality. I do like the way that you can adjust the cup in many ways. I agree the price point is a bit high. I think it would be awesome if they made a jock strap style cup that was adjustable like this system is but that could be used with other compression shorts. Also i train primarily BJJ so i am thinking the leg pads will not be used very often but if i was in need of thigh pads these seem to absorb a significant amount of force with minimal weight. I would like to see a set of shorts without the padding that will fit the cup at a reasonable price ( I too train 3-5 days a week and it will be tough for my girlfriend to keep one set clean everyday ) I will make another post after i have actually rolled in them and give my impression of the protection and comfort.

I also want to add this to the cons... I seem to forget that I am wearing a cup because the damn thing is so comfortable. I mean I am getting used to it now more than my XO. Well on another thing.... it is a little pain in the tush when you just want to take the cup off since usually after training I just take the cup of my compression shorts and just throw in my pants or shorts but now I actually have to take the whole thing off. not really that big of a deal.

Mumrik... I totally understand why some people can read the review and question its legitimacy, but here is my thing... if I lie or BS my way out of reviewing an item and other people call me out on it. I just lost my credibility now I don't have much but I'd like to keep whatever I have left.. Besides there are other people here that can and also review the Jaco products and I am more than confident that they will say the same thing about Jaco's quality and service.

Gabriel: maybe if at all possible you guys can come up with just your basic compression shorts. Kind of like how you have the premium bamboo shirts and the regular one that is cheaper. Maybe people will be more than willing to try something like that first and eventually "upgrade". Just an idea...
although the shorts is more than perfect!!!

Oh yeah!! I'llpost a picture of all my cups for comparison.. Minus my nutty buddy because I was so pissed that I used that cup to beat my neighbor.. not really I just gave it to him.

Has anyone from Canada ordered from Jaco? The fact that they only ship UPS worries me, since I've only had bad experiences with UPS and brokerage fees...
