I did a review of these a few weeks ago but didn't have pics. So here they are with a revised review.

I just got a pair of the new Madflex Fight Trunks from Madcor. What I liked about these shorts is that, IMO, the design is unique and aesthetically appealing. On the side panels where many shorts have a slit, these shorts have a wetsuit-neoprene-like material that gives you flexibility and comfort. As a surfer in Socal, I know that neoprene is durable and very flexible. Don't think anyone else has neoprene, per se.

Not sure what the rest of the shorts are made of but it has the same stretchy, moisture-resistant feel comparable to the Hitman Recon shorts.

The waist fit is very true to size with no drawstrings. I got a size 32 and if I eat a big meal before training, they'll feel a little tight. Not much give on the waist and so you want to get the right size. The front closure is also made of the wetsuit material. It's a wide closure that I found a little uncomfortable if I had eaten too much. They're going to have odd-sized shorts coming out later and so a 33 would've been better for me.

The Madflex are also a little pricier than average ($70) but in light of the appealing design, overall comfort/durability, and the neoprene side panel, I'd say they're worth it.

In the interest of full disclosure (because some guys had asked), I don't work for Madcor or have any vested interest in them. I just think people should take a look at what they offer. The co-owner of the company is the head instructor where I train, OC Kickboxing. I was introduced to their gear at the gym, but really became a big fan when I saw their complete line at the NAMMAE expo in Anaheim, CA, last fall. I later visited their office in San Clemente, CA and saw some of the upcoming t-shirt designs due out later this year and there are some really great looking shirts. Neoprene... is that material heavier than the typical material used in stretch panels?

Not a big fan of no-drawstring shorts, and I still think they're a bit overpriced.

It is heavier than most materials and also stretches further. The thickness is the same as the rest of the shorts, however--maybe 1-2 mm.

And yeah, I like drawstrings too depending on what I just ate.

Isn't neoprene used for wetsuits to keep you warm? Why would you want that in a fight short?

very good question. let me correct what i wrote. i'm not 100% sure it's neoprene. it's neoprene-like or wetsuit like.

your question made me go and compare my winter wetsuit to the shorts. i'd say the material is very similar if not the same. i took a ruler and measured the thickness of the wetsuit and the shorts. the wetsuit was 4 mm in thickness at the sleeves. the shorts were 1mm. so, theoretically, it would not retain warmth to the same degree. i can tell you based on training in them that, unlike when you wear a wetsuit for surfing, you cannot tell you're wearing anything out of the ordinary when you wear these shorts. no unusual warmth or discomfort.

also, i've gone to the OTM store and compared this material to similar, side panel materials on shorts from other brands. this material feels thicker, more durable and definitely more elastic than others. that elasticity is the nature of wetsuit material almost by definition.

but in any case, there's no warmth issue because it's not the same thickness as wetsuits. also, the neoprene-like material is actually silkier to the touch than the rest of the shorts.

i found out with certainty that the side panel is 1mm neoprene.

never even heard of that brand. They look pretty sweet. But $70?? I would get a pair of Hayabusa's or a pair of sprawl's and some porn for that much money.

If you saw the first Strikeforce on NBC show that they air early Sunday mornings, Cung Le is wearing the shorts as they're interviewing him during his training.

Lance Wipf also wore them at the recent Matt Lindland Strikeforce event.
