And he also is supposed to be coming out with an 18 oz glove too at some stage I think.

And you should be aware cos you are the last poster in that thread.....
I knew about the 18 oz'ers...didn't realize those are the "KO Thai" model, though...

How much do you weight, btw?

im not a big guy, im like 5 8-9 and 150-165(right now im like 150 but im generally in the 150-160 area 165 being max)...so if i come to a boxing gym, will they let me spar in 12 oz or only 16 oz? and which is better for just pad/bag work?

If you have 14 oz, you should be fine...they won't be too light, nor heavy and have plenty of padding for sparring...I spar with a guy who weighs 270 lbs and he has 14's, I feel it, but not too bad.

14's also light enough to really work fast combos on the bag/pads, too...so you're good on that end also...

Now, I hate reiterating this all the time, but please be conscientious of your sparring partners...if you use the gloves on the bag/pad A LOT, please do them a favor and don't use them to spar b/c with extensive bag/pad work, the foam will compress in the front and will negate any extra padding that's there in a 14+ oz glove. If you're very seldomly doing sparring and it's very light, you should be just fine...but if you're gonna spar like 2+ times per week, you should really invest in two pair of gloves...one for "training" (partner drills, sparring, etc.) and one for bag/pad work...

yea im looking to buy the kofightgear gloves and they dont seem to come in 14 oz, either 16 or 12..so for bag/pad work and limited sparring will 12 be good enough or should i go with 16s(again im not a big guy).. also thanks for your help, i didnt realize i would need two pairs but when i start training boxing regularly thats what i will do. Right now im just getting down some fundamentals and doing very basic drills with a couple of guys

Just go with the 16 oz'ers. Good for conditioning and it's more padding/shock-absorption, so less overall stress on your joints while hitting the bag.

Plus, it's gonna be better padding for the limited sparring you'll be doing.
