Great post by the way TS.
I would say A3 in Atama for sure. Keiko A3 should be good as well. Padilla and Sons A3 should be good, but you should call before you order, because Joe might have changed some stuff, so you are better off calling and letting him advise you.

I think that both are great. I like my Atamas just a tad more. I wish my Mundial #7 was a bit longer in the sleeves and the skirt, so I wouldn't haveto worry about making regulations.
Keiko is a great gi as well.

Thanks dude A3 it is! I will go with the white, I thought a newb turning up in a red or black gi is asking to get pretzled.

Black ones are bad ass though, makes you look like a ninja!

One thing about white is that it gets pretty dirty, so blue or black are fine. I haven't bought a black gi, but blues are fine.
Don't worry about people giving you shit about your gi. That's just silly. Buy what you like.

I know what you mean but for me it is an unwritten rule, it was like someone new turning up for soccer with brand new bright yellow $200 boots. Either they were a d-bag or they thought they were a bit good.

I think I will go for the simple white, once I am more confident I will go for the fancy ones. It is my next few christmas presents sorted anyway!

Your always safe with white in anyones gym, seminar or general training. Some instructors don't like it so I just follow that rule to be safe.I wouldn't show up to train with Rickson in a black gi out of respect. Just use your head if you buy a colored gi

Blue would be perfectly fine as well. IMO.

Not a big fan of black - for the exact reason that I didn't want to look like a ninja. lol

My Gi arrived today, I went with Padilla & Sons gold weave blue. I went with A4 as in anticipation of shrinkage.

The pants are the right length but super baggy, the jacket is very large too. Problem I have is I've got long limbs but a small waist.

Question I have is; to shrink it I will wash it on hot, but I don't have a dryer so would putting it on a hot radiator work? Or even using a hair dryer?

The paperwork with it says wash it on cold for it's first wash to set the colour and weave.

I must say the customer service from Joe was great, due to the shipping costs he threw in a belt gratis. I would buy from him again, I am no expert granted but the gi feels like a quality product.

If you can, call Joe and ask him what he suggests for shrinking, because he knows his products best.
If you dont have a dryer, there are a couple of things that you can do. leave it out in the sun (this might not work anymore, because it is fall), go to a laundromat.
I hope it works out for you.

Just a quick thing regarding regulation measurements.
I haven't been to an IBJJF tournament yet, but am getting ready for next year. We had Fabio Santos in for a seminar, and he is pretty tight with the federation, so I managed to ask him some questions regarding kimonos.
Here is what he said:
The measurements for the sleeves are done with the arms out to the side, so a T or airplane pose, so to say, which makes a huge difference and all my kimonos are regulation sized then. The arms are not held in front of you.
They also measure how much room is there between your wrist and the sleeve. He said that 4 fingers must fit to be regulation. Skirt should be 7 inches below the belt, so that covers length.
I hope that helps.

Fantastic to think of asking Fabio Santos. Great work Stoicdude.
At first I thought...Oh for sure we'll get a good answer here now finally on this issue...but there seems to still be some discrepancies in his answer to you.

Taken from IBJJF website:
"The jacket is to be of suficient length down to the thighs, sleeves must reach the wrist with arms extended in front of the body."

This contradicts what was indicated indicated. I personally have never encountered a measurement with arms to the sides. That position will make most gi very legal. In all respect i think he is indocrrect in some way with this statement....but will gladly retract that with some reference to this somewhere.

Also 7" below belt? I think all Jiu-Jitsu practitioners in that one alone will not be allowed on the mats. That is close to Judo regulation.

4 fingers I have heard before aswell, but still leaves a lot of room for margin. I better get ref'ed by a very samll handed person then.....awesome. Start shaking if you have to walk on the mats with 6'7 /300lbs ref standing there eyeballing your gi.

There is such limited information on this topic that I dont think we'll ever really know. They have a measuring tool with any guide to whihc diemnsion is for which measuring point. How would anyone know then.

Awesome thinking to ask Fabio though.
