Grant Campeón Hook & Loop Training Gloves

I recently purchased the Grant Campeón Hook & Loop Training Gloves (14oz.) from grantboxing.com. They are currently on "sale" for $69.99 + $12.00 S&H. I made the purchase on Sunday night and received them on Thursday. The package was actually shipped from ringside so I assume that's where Grant keeps their inventory. Now on to the part that actually matters, the review.

The gloves I purchased are 14oz.

Overall, the gloves are slightly smaller in actually physical dimensions than my past set of 16oz gloves; however, they seem much smaller on my hands.

They contain a very dense foam compared to my prior set of gloves (Top Contender Training Glove) that measures approximately 2 1/2" thick. This foam is hard and provides excellent protection. I have yet to spar with them but when do I will have to ask my training partners if the padding is too hard. The forearm is also protected with nearly 1 1/4" of foam padding.

As with most Mexican style gloves the hand compartment is extremely tight providing excellent support. With hand wraps on the gloves hug my hand so tightly that they feel as if they are an extension of my body. (For comparison purpose my hands measure 8 1/4" around the knuckles.) The lining inside the hand compartment seems extremely durable and wicks away sweet well; however, it tends to be hotter than some other gloves I have trained in.

The Hook & Loop closure is mostly leather with a small portion of elastic to allow for different size forearms and a tighter fit.The wrist support from the Hook & Loop closer is far superior to my last set of gloves and the Velcro on the closure seems strong.

The stitch work throughout the glove is very well done with no loose threads, and the leather is of excellent quality. The leather is much thicker than my past gloves and seems extremely durable.

The thumb is attached with a strip of leather to the main body of the glove and in no way could you accidentally poke someone in the eye.

There is only one con to these gloves, in the manufacturing process they allow the leather to protrude from the glove rather than role it back in, most likely due to its thickness, this make for a slight ridge of leather. While this leather is extremely soft and I know it would never cut someone there is always a chance of somehow it catching someone in the eye, but I do not believe it will be a problem.

They also did not complete close off the leather bead around the wrist strap.

A final note for those curious these gloves are not manufactured in Mexico like other glove but rather in China. The quality is still impeccable I'm sure this is just a way of cutting cost on there Campeón line of products.

So far I have used these gloves on the heavy bag and on some mitts. They provide unreal protection (10 times more than my prior glove) and comfort. I have complete confidence in there ability to protect my hands and wrists. I would suggest these glove to anyone looking for a new training glove in this price range, and if you are looking for a cheaper glove I would go as far as saying save up for these; you will not be disappointed.

Final score: 9.7/10 (-.3 for leather as mentioned above.)

I will update this thread when I spar with them, also if you have any questions feel free to ask.

Veenutz, a training partner of mine has had a pair of Ultimate Classic Training Gloves for 4+ years and he absolutely loves them. With the enhancements Ringside has made in those years to that particular glove (Quad layer Foam, etc.) I am sure they have only gotten better. I know you would be pleased with either glove.

The only thing I can point out is the Ultimates have the sleeve around their Hook & Loop closure like my past gloves pictured above; so unless you have a willing training partner to fix the cuff they can become a pain in the ass to put on/take off.

I did some more bag and mitt work today, along with some double end bag work and I am only loving the Grants more and more. I will be sure to update upon sparing with the Grants, most likely tomorrow or Tuesday.

If anyone has further questions or comments please feel free to ask.

Grant gloves are finally back in stock?

Damnit, I promised myself I wasn't going to spend any more money this week.

I sparred for the first time with the gloves on Tuesday. The gloves felt great, hitting people in the face didn't hurt my hands at all . I did notice the difference in size compared to my last gloves, as there was less glove to rely on for protection making me focus more on my head movement, a very good thing. My training partners did not complain about the stiffness of padding at all while sparring; however, when I asked if they noticed any difference afterwards they said it felt as if my punches had slightly more force behind them. I doubt I hit any harder since last sparring (Wed.) so I chalk that up as a difference in density of foams between my new (Grants) and old (Top Contender) gloves.

Now that I have sparred with the gloves and no one complained about them being to hard and I did not catch anyone with the leather I pointed out in the main review; I can only again tell you how great these gloves are and suggest them to anyone looking for a new training glove.

As always feel free to ask any questions and I will answer them to the best of my ability as quickly as possible.

James

I, in no way, mean to sound critical but I want those that are viewing this thread to know that the Grant Campeón Hook & Loop Training Gloves do not come in black, only red. The gloves younggunz is referring to are the Grant Campeón Super Bag Gloves; which have a review on Sherdog here.

I do not know the difference between the two besides that the Super Bag Gloves are $20 cheaper and only come in 12oz. That may be the only difference or there may be more; often bag gloves tend to be harder on sparring partners than training gloves.

If you are looking at purchasing just a glove for bag and mitt work I would go with the Super Bag Glove. However if you plan to also spar with the gloves I would lean toward the Hook & Loop Training Gloves just for the extra padding and any other possible refinements.

ahh..I didn't read the thread title correctly..

sparring with 12oz bag gloves is not recommended..striking surface is flat (not curved) and its easy to break the 4th/5th ****carpel if you catch the skull..
