Gladiator Custom Mouthguard aka customguards.com Review

I just recieved my custom mouthguard from Gladiator Guards aka customguards.com

The turn around time from the day I ordered to the day I received was exactly 1.5 weeks.
I ordered the Elite model which is slightly thicker then the Pro model and I also used a custom color combination. The total price for everything, including shipping, came to $105.00. A 2nd guard is only $25-$50 depending on the customization as long as I send them back my mold.

The teeth mold process was very simple and took less than 10 minutes to make 2 molds (they want 2 as a backup). They send 2 tray's, you mix two putty's together, put the putty in the tray and bite down for 4 minutes until it gets hard. That's it.

The guard looks great and it fits amazingly well. I have to "pop" it out of my mouth to get it out. There is no way this thing will come off during a fight.

The ONLY concern I have is that there is no bottom teeth mold on it. So when I clinch my mouth shut hard it doesn't feel like my jaw is closed as much as I'd like it...BUT the good news is I called them and they explained to me how to get my bottom teeth impression on the bottom of the guard. Use Thongs and dip just the bottom of the guard into boiling water, heat it up until soft (much like a boil & bite) and then put in mouth and bite down. Do this until it fits how you want it. Just make sure to ONLY heat up the BOTTOM of the guard so as not to mess up the custom fit of the top teeth.

Great review and photos! Nice mouth guard. I have been waiting for someone to do a recent detailed review for the Elite model, as most people seem to go with the Pro model. Thanks. Very helpful information.

I did a review on the pro. I owned an elite but like the reviewer in this thread, I couldn't close my mouth enough to be comfortable. It was just too thick. My jaw muscles would hurt after 15 minutes or so.

nice review, thanks. One request though, can you come back in a couple of weeks and let us know how it is holding up? A poster in a previous thread about these guards said his were showing "signs of wear" after about 2 weeks. I would like to know if you had any of the same issues. thanks

I've been using my elite for about a year and my pro for about 8 months, 3 times a week. There are teeth marks in the bottom, but they aren't any deeper than they were after a few weeks. They hold up fine.

Yes, I will do a follow-up review in a few weeks.

I used it last night for the first time for 2 hours doing BJJ. I loved it. I almost forgot it was in my mouth a few times because it stays in place by itself, no chance of it falling out of my mouth.

When rolling I didn't notice any problem clinching my mouth tight. I thought I would, but from what I could tell I was able to clinch my jaw very tightly.
I still want to mold my bottom teeth in it for a tighter fit...I will do this tonight. Didn't have time last night.

So, first session, very pleased.

Just a side note for anyone interested in getting one of these...my Black belt BJJ instructor (who is also a pro MMA fighter) has the Pro model and loves his. So obviously the Pro is good enough :-)
