Gameness Primetime Sparring gloves review
Ok here’s another review that I’m running late on, this time for the new Gameness primetime gloves.
For those for you who don’t know I’m basically a grappler with very little striking training, I sometimes roll with strikes but that’s been about it, so to help me with this review a training partner of mine who has previously trained with Ian Freeman as well as competed in many sambo, boxing and kickboxing competitions over the past 15 years before taking up BJJ helped me out (and by helped me out I mean beat me down then told me how good it felt)
First things first. The gloves feel very good on, they have the same Velcro wrist strap that we’re seeing more and more of on MMA gloves that wraps round the wrist a couple of times for support, also unlike the Rogue sparmaster and some other MMA training gloves there is no hard material over the knuckles which makes things feel a whole lot better, especially for people that don’t tape their hands/wrists, they are an open palm design for grappling and have very little bulk compared to many other training gloves such as the CSI or sparmasters. The gloves resemble those worn in pride, with slightly more padding.
When rolling neither of us felt restricted by the gloves, moves such as armbar escapes were still possible so there was no need to go lighter with sub attempts with the gloves on. I’ve actually worn a Gi in the sessions I’ve used them (Yoshida-ing it as I call it) and even with that I didn’t feel restricted when moving from position to position at all
Ed made a comment that he felt there was a lot less chafing with these gloves than the fairtex model, I myself hadn’t noticed too much of a difference however I can’t hit as hard as him so if you’re a heavy hitter this is also a huge plus point for you.
The only minus point there was really is that the first time I used them the gloves left some black marks on my wrists which didn’t go away totally for a day or so, however that hasn’t been an issue since.
Overall these are these are the best MMA sparring gloves I feel I’ve used and perhaps more importantly my training partner agreed with me. They are certainly worth a look if you’re in the market for sparring gloves, great protection for your striking and very unrestrictive for your grappling.
