Big Guy Review: Under Armour HeatGear Compression Top w/ Pics

Disclaimer regarding the following review: this is my first review and I'm very new to grappling. Please give me a break if you don't agree or if I'm missing something.

I've titled this a "Big Guy Review" since there seems to be a lack of reviewers that wear anything more than a large. And I'm sure there's a few guys out there who can attest to how hard it can be to find clothes, sports gear, shoes, etc.

I'm 6'5", 250 lbs. I wear a size 40 waist and my shirts are almost always XL.

Product: Under Armour HeatGear Compression Top
Purchased At: Scheels
Price: $35
Size: XL

I was originally looking at purchasing an actual grappling rashguard -- Sprawl Loose Fit, Koral, etc. I eventually settled on this because I didn't want to drop $50 (includes shipping) on something I've never tried on before. I went to Scheels and tried on a L and an XL. The L was way too tight but the XL fit pretty good. Or I should say it seemed to fit good for someone who had never tried on something like this before.

The first time I rolled in it I was really happy. Keep in mind I had been rolling in a t-shirt previously. I can't comment on how it'll hold up over the long haul but it's held up good twice so far. I expect it will do fine since football players use these and if it can hold up to a helmet snagging on it I'm sure it should do fine rubbing on a mat.

What I particularly enjoyed about this top was its heat-regulating features. Being a big guy I always have a hard time with my body overheating. It seems like I can never drink enough water. This top kept me so much cooler than my good, old cotton t-shirt and I didn't get the trademark heat-headache when I was done rolling.

The one downside is it doesn't have too much of a taper on the waist and this tends to make it creep up sometimes. However, this only happened once or twice and I didn't tuck it into my shorts very well.

Overall, I would recommend this as a cheaper rashguard replacement to a beginner not looking to break the bank on something they can't try on.

Flibb: Price: $35

It's actually a great review theNuge
can you comment on how thick the fabric is and how the seams are. Personally I've never considered underarmour since over here it cost about 62$

The fabric isn't as thick as the Koral rashguards but that's the only comparison I can make since I just got a Koral rashguard.

Here's a picture of the seams which are on the inside of the rashguard. The first one is the sleeve and the second one is the collar.

Thanks for the review and for thinking of us big guys.

I might have mentioned to you before that both HCK and Warrior Wear make a XXXL rashie. My HCK fits great, and I am 6'3" 250lbs, with monkey arms. It is long and tapered so it doesn't creep.

Yeah, I love the "monkey-arm" problem. I think I've just gotten used to all my shirts sitting above my wrists.

Under Armour now has a mock T which is longer and tapered to solve the creep problem with mesh vents, has anyone tried it?

thenuge-

i've had a similar problem with the same UA rashguard in terms of riding up. i gave up on em completely after giving mizuno's a shot. they're super thick, with a mock neck, so probably not great for warm weather training.

right now i use nikepro compression long sleeve tops with the mesh sidevents, and boy are they lifesavers. they have a pretty good length to them too, i can tuck em into my shorts and roll for hours with no problem.

i know a lot of people hate on rashguards that arent made specifically for mma/grappling, but fuckit. if its durable and comfortable stick with it.
