Everlast Pro Series hook and loop

I am an avid boxing and muay thai fan. I would say that I go no less than 40 rounds on a heavy bag mitts or sparring a week. On top of this I like to do olympic style lifts. All of this adds up to my wrists being prone to injury. I was looking for gloves that would offer great wrist and hand protection without having to spend $200+ on winning gloves. I did my research and read that the pro series gloves were designed by orthopedic hand surgeons and were made to limit injuries so I decided to give them a shot. In this review i will be comparing the everlast gloves my main other pair of gloves Fairtex Muay Thai training gloves.

Right out of the box I noticed a distinct smell. If you ever go into a leather store you will know what smell I am talking about. These gloves smell like a brand new leather jacket. The leather is very nice and noticeably thicker than many other gloves.

These gloves really are well made. You can just tell when you look at them or pick them up. Just like a lot of people I was fooled in the past into buying crap everlast gloves from a sporting goods store. I was very skeptical to buy more everlast gloves but right away I could tell a huge difference between these and their crap sporting goods counterparts.

A main selling point for me was how low in profile the gloves are. They are long but very slim which is great for slipping punches in between a sparring partners guard.

The gloves are vented which keeps your hands decently cool. A downside of the beautiful thick leather is my hands do get a little sweatier in these gloves than others.

I LOVE the elastic band on the cuff. When putting them on you have to stretch the cuff to even get them to go around your wrist. Doing this makes for a super tight and comfortable fit. These gloves feel better on my wrists than any other gloves that I have used. They do not budge one inch while they are in use. The extra long wrist cuff coupled with the elastic makes these some of the best wrist protecting gloves that I have used, if not the best.

more coming.

As you can see the gloves are much slimmer than the Fairtex gloves. They are also different styles which accounts for the different curvature of the striking surfaces. The Fairtex are muay thai while the everlast are traditional western boxing style. The padding is similar on both gloves. The everlasts feel softer because of the extra thickness of the leather compared to the Fairtex's.

As you can see the cuff extends much farther on the everlast gloves as opposed to the Fairtex. I like both styles but the everlast does feel better when going full power on a heavy bag based on the added wrist support.

The hand compartment is much smaller in the everlasts than the fairtex gloves. I have slightly small hands but even if I had large hands I feel like the hand compartment on the Fairtex's is a little too big. They slide around and I find myself adjusting them as a workout which is a nuisance. The everlasts are tight and a little difficult to put on but once they are on they feel great.

I really like both sets of gloves and they both have their strengths. I use the everlasts as my bag gloves now because the firm fit and wrist support gives me that extra confidence that I can really dig body shots without hurting my wrist. I use the Fairtex for mitt work and light sparring (and I mean very light). I will be picking up another pair of the everlast gloves to use exclusively for sparring soon.

All in all I am very happy with these gloves. They can be used for bag and mitt work or sparring and for $80 you can't really go wrong.

Pros:
Awesome leather feel
Fantastic wrist support
Solid padding for bag or sparring
extended cuff makes for very secure fit

cons:
People snicker at everlast gloves until you let them try them out
Hands get sweatier than with other gloves
Hand compartment is tight which would not work for people with big hands. These are 16oz and are tight on my smallish hands. It works grat for me though.

I give these gloves a 9 out of 10. Comparable to the Fairtex which I also love. I am saving a 10 out of 10 review for when I finally get some winning gloves!

Another great review, 888Shogun888. I'm buying a pair of these gloves soon for a sparring partner, and this really helped confirm it's the right choice for him. Thanks.
