cleto reyes training glove review

I got these a couple weeks ago when I needed a new pair of 16 oz training/bag glove. they seem pretty durable and able to last a long time. the leather is soft and squishy but i know it's not fake. when it came, the leather smell was too strong and being in a enclosed car, all I could smell was leather. I think I got high off of this smell too. The glove overall, is very stiff and hard, even for a training/sparring glove. the description says the glove is for sparring but I cant imagine hitting a good training partner with this as it wouldnt seem very cool.

pros:
looks cool
durable quality leather
soft inside the gloves
good if you wanna hurt somebody
offers partial forearm protection
knuckle protection is very underrated. I have fragile knuckles and other gloves, including twins caused me knuckle pain but knuckle pain was no problem at all with these gloves on

cons:
finger area inside the gloves is very tight
awkward feel on the knuckle padding. it is not flat like most gloves but the knuckle padding is curved like a half-circle sticking out of the glove from the inside. so when I hit a bag, my contact is not very solid but feels weird.
too hard for sparring
is overall pretty tight and I have very small hands too

I dont really likethese very much. I might try to sell them off or something. How are mexican style gloves generally made? I like the sleek design and everything but I dont like the way it feel on the inside. Some other mexican gloves I have worn feel much better than this. I will do a review on my new pair of Winning gloves I just recieved

The knuckle design is intentional. All mexican style gloves have knuckles like that, which are intended to increase your punching power.

you mean the curved padding on the inside? How does that increas your punching power? I know the padding is harder so it can help your impact be harder but the curved padding on the inside makes the contact a little shakey when I hit something hard like the bag

Reyes are hand made and are meant to be broken in...

Once you break them in, they are simply amazing....the chamber is tight in order to allow break in for maximum fit....If you are hitting a bag don't buy sparring gloves, as they are often curved to maximize acute pressure to the front of your hand (IE punching power that is not disipated by the glove)...bag gloves usually have more flat surface area...

don't like these? keep them anyway and use them for sparring...
Buy a pair of grant bag specific gloves for bag work.

How do you wrap your hands?

I always wear that extra "fat" layer (ribbon wrap or gauze) on the top of the knuckle. Mexican-style gloves feel perfect with those.

I got those from ringside when they were on sale. as for keeping them to spar with, I dont know about that. the padding is so had that some of my main training partners object to that. I also have another pair of sparring gloves.
