The sequel to Passing the Guard, this is just as amazing as the first volume. Great graphic sequences and tons of little blurbs with great insights and tips to remember.
The first chapter is full of fundamental concepts and drills for shrimping and leg/hip work. Perfect for someone new to JJ, and a few things for the veterans as well.
Second chapter covers defending and countering the Smash Pass in about as much detail as possible. I haven't seen any other reference material pay this much attention to this basic pass that everyone looking for a functional guard should master.
The next few chapters contain chokes, choke defense, various sweeps and armbars. Won't go into breakdown here, but these chapters show every detail usually from multiple angles and with variances. Very clear instruction with focus on specifics that some people don't pay enough attention to.
The final chapters look at postured opponents, controlling and getting advantage on stallers, transitioning concepts and some turtle and standing up keys. Invaluable material for begginers and people looking for clarity on some of these positions and ideas.
With both volumes together, you could take any person from the street and they could develope a functional guard.
Production: 9
Material: 8
Price: 8
Overall I would say 8/10 for the average BJJ player and 9/10 for a begginer looking for reference material to help them get started.
