Aries Fight Gear Review, Boxing gloves, Shinsguards, MMA Gloves

I ran across The Aries brand a few years back, and have bought a few items from them in that time. Here are the reviews:
Pro Series Boxing Gloves, 14oz:
Price: $59.95

These gloves are black cowhide leather. The leather is smooth, 1.0 mil thick. They have a velcro wrist closure, with a roll-down elastic strap that covers the velcro for protection during sparring. They have a pretty long cuff, providing decent wrist support.

The foam is relatively soft, injection molded. It conforms to my hand very well. I like stiffer foam for bag and pad work, so these suit me better for sparring and partner drills. What I noticed after about 8 months of daily training, is small bumps appearing on the knuckle area of the glove. I assume this is the beginning of the interior foam breaking down just under the leather. I have seen this with several brands.

The cross bar is thin, which I like for sparring but not for bag or pad work. The thumb is attached.

The interior contains a clothy lining that wicks sweat and is comfortable. It is roomy and wide fit, perfect for my long wraps.

overall: 3.7 out of 5. A good quality for the price, from an unexpected Indian brand.

Vinyl Shinguards:
Price: $29.95

The vinyl is thick and durable. After over a year of sparring with these, no rips. I imagine if I sprung for the leather version, these would last for a long, long time.

The foam is soft over the shin, providing great protection for the sparring partner. However, it is too soft over the top of the foot. One accidental foot kick to an elbow, it is painful.

There is a nice clothy backing.
There is a elastic wrap around the bottom of the foot. The strap is a little wide compared to other brands, which in theory should affect your balance while sparring. I never had problems though.

The fit is wide. Very wide, it's a one-size fits all. A man over about 210lbs with thick legs will love the fit. It was a little loose on me, a measely 165lbs dude.

overall: 3.1 out of five. If you're the right size man for the fit, its a good buy for 30 bucks.

MMA Grappling Gloves:
price: $29.95

1.0mil cowhide leather. Could be durable, but they never got a chance.

The wrist wrap is wide, with an elastic and velcro. It provides good wrist support, very snug.

The problem was the neoprene finger slots. Comfortable, but not so durable. Within a month of training, the stitching of one finger slot became undone, and needed sewn back in. This is common with any mma glove made with neoprene palms and finger slots.

Overall - 2.8 out of 5. Dissappointed but not a waste of money.
