I cross train with knives, ASP, PR-24, OC and firearms. As a firearms instructor for law enforcement I stress to all the importance of MMA training and not just relying on firearms.

Okay as you are a firearms instructor, whose books would you recommend reading for self protection?I'm aware of Geoff Thompson,Massad Ayoob,Marcus Wynne but would there be anyone else to add to the list?Bear in mind that (in theory)fireaarms are not a problem in the UK but I', sure the other posters in here would be interested in such a list, both for armed and unarmed stuffThanks.

How do you like the PR-24? It always seemed a little slow to me.

I also train with a Bo, sticks, double sticks and guns in addition to MMA. They do help with footwork. I like the Bo and sticks because you learn to use any type of stick or board you find as a weapon if you are confronted with multiple attackers and cannot escape. I plan to learn knife defense.

I would recommend Gabe Suarez, " Tactical Pistol Marksmanship " for handguns. Massad Ayoob is one of the best out there, but his tactics are a little bit too intense for the average gun owner. A fellow officer went to one of his stress fire training schools and had to complete a shooting course while getting stun gunned with 80,000 volts. Crazy shit. Unarmed I would go with Sammy Franco of CFA, best street fighting instructor out there. http://sammyfranco.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc

PR-24 is real old school now, but I still love it. We don't carry it anymore, we carry the ASP.

Yes. I train in Combat Sambo. We train all striking, grappling, and weapons.

It carries over well, as you become better at trapping and close range fighting.
