I am sure you have seen the 20 foot drills, and how long it takes to draw a weapon and how quickly someone can close the distance.

Dan Inosanto did a bunch for law enforcement training, and it was pretty damn scary to see how fast someone trained could get to a person attempting to draw a sidearm.

Personally if I feel the need I like a spring loaded baton... but I rarely ever carry when going out unless really looking for it or it's unavoidable because of a situation.

Besides you can usually find a weapon if you need one lying around where ever the confrontation starts, if you aren't an idiot you usually have plenty of time before violence becomes a factor to prepare yourself.

Yeah, but usually if you are skilled like that you aren't some trigger happy gun nut. The average prick who wants to fight usually doesn't have a weapon just a bunch of friends so they feel like they can't lose as long as they out number you. Mob mentality is for retards.

In reality, I don't think a lot of people are concerned with this issue. Most people who go out to have fun just go out and have fun; they don't worry about being mugged or other bullshit.

True, but a great majority of street confrontations are going to occur at 10 feet or less, and most likely at less than five feet. Knowlegdeable (i.e. trained) people are going to try to keep distance in order to provide a more favorable reaction time. It would still be hard to draw a weapon of any kind at such a short distance.

If you do happen to have multiple adversaries would one even want to pull a weapon, or just get the hell out of there? I vote for the latter.

That depends on the situation. It's possible that pulling a weapon is your best chance for getting the hell out of there. If a few unarmed people have backed you into some area where you can't easily leave or if you've got someone else with you who is slow, pulling out a knife or a pistol is almost guaranteed to make them back off.

^ I don't care what people say 95% of all people when a gun is drawn is getting the hell out of there & I'm one of them, the risk isn't worth it & anyone trying to act tough needs a reality check. As far as any other type of weapon goes, knives really suck, there is nothing worse than that feeling of getting stabbed & if there are multiple people & even one of them has a knife it becomes a really screwed up situation because of how quick & concealable knives are. I don't really get freaked out by anything else though, I mean baseball bats, pipes, beer bottles, etc.. are usually pretty easy to either get a hold of or at least get it out of their control.

I think the real problem isn't the possibility but the fact that more people carry because of the possibility, any weapon you carry can be used on you, your ego isn't going to help if you think carry a weapon is safer than common sense.
