Nice. I don't think I could hit the broad side of a barn at 600m with iron sites. How large are the targets at that range? I noticed that some of the shooters get their face really close on the rear sight. Is that due to small apertures?

Here's a pic of some goon standing in front of a 600 yard target. I believe the 10 ring is 12 inches, and the X ring is 6 inches across.
Sight picture isn't much off any target you'd aim at from 100 yards.
A lot of times you end up close because the position moves you closer in. in service rifle rules, you're stuck witht he length of the stock as it comes. It's usually fine offhand, but the more you slump over it the closer you end up on the sights.
In M1A days you're get hit under the eye and look beat up, but not with these new pop-guns....
The nice thing is that the entire setup of High Power Competition is simply a process to let you learn that iron sights are capable, and you can be effective, even at otherwise considered, long ranges.. Its a discipline that can become a life-long endeavor, sometimes frustrating, but often times quite satisfying. You learn to trust you're own determination and judgement, and there's instant feedback for every decision you make.
Stringing 5 or 6 Xs together at 600 yards is quite a good feeling of accomplishment.
