stick question

Hey guys I have been do ing stick work for years and alot of my students haven been wanting to do some but keep #!#@#ing about there hands getting sore. I don't have this issue not sure if I am just condition from doing it, or gripping weights or shooting a long bow. Non the less any sugestions on how to get these guys grip to heal so to speak, so far fingerless gloves has been ok but wondered if any FMA or CMA guys had veiws, thanks

RICE I guess. helps with healing in general.

if you want grip strength, sqeeze stuff and try to hang on to something heavy with your fingers(not whole hand closing on it).

but what you really should do is evaluate why so many of your students seem to be getting injured. maybe it's something you are doing wrong. if they are long term injuries, i guess you need some physiotherapy exercises before doing heavy work.

Are you talking about grip strength or the healing of hands from being hit? Any full contact spar training that involves hard hand shots all the time is futile. Use some hand protection such as hockey, or lacrosse gloves. Better yet buy some Lameco armor and keep the full contact sparring at a minimum.

is this from hitting or are they just getting gripping blisters and stuff?

they'll toughen up if they like it. 1/2 speed sparring after classes? Mebbe 1x week sparring and the rest on technique?

He was talking about gripping blisters, his stick are really padded, I will try to post a pic later, they have about 1/4 foam every where but the grip
