Shotgun thread
So I am in the market for a shotgun
Or will be by next month when I have taken the practical part of my hunting exam (required here in Sweden to be allowed to own weapons)
Remington 870 or Mossberg 500 seems good choices no?, The Mossberg seems a little bit more expensive worth it?
Any other I should research in the same price range?
Should I consider semi-auto?
This will be the first pump-shotgun in the family I have only hunted with side by sides or over under. But as boar hunting is getting popular over here I wanted to kill two birds with one stone, and as you are not allowed to hunt with slugs in two piped guns a pump it is
And concerning slugs, just by googling some results I seem to be getting very different range/accuracy claims, I have always heard 30-35 meters but I see several claims of double that and more

Mossberg is more expensive there? Wow! Here in Texas the 870 is the expensive one by about $100.00.
There's a few models out there that are 24inch barrel length with full choke, and sometimes screw-in chokes for slugs and what not. My guess is that individual mileage will vary.
The last time I shot slugs was at a run-n-gun, (rifle - shotgun -pistol) match, and it was a borrowed Remington 870 with a 30 inch full choke barrel. The targets were human sillywets at 70 meters. I asked the owner of the shotgun, "hey' where in the fuck does this thing shoot at this distance?" He said who the hell shoots slugs at geese? (the match called for 5 shots with slugs, who knows why) so I figured I'd shoot two shots and just move on. When the time came I aimed dead center chest, shoot and then shot again right quick and moved on. When the targets where checked they thought I was some sort of shotgun god, cause the first shot went dead center face, and the second went dead center chest. So basically, the goddamn thing shot 24 inches straight up from point of aim at 70 meters, and the second shot I probly was still recoiling back down and probly aiming at his dick the get the chest shot. But right and left was ok, so maybe just get one with sights?

I have just browsed online ads for used ones but it was a trend
was thinking a red dot sight
Would be useful to pick of landed geese on fields and stuff, and a little help in boar hunting

Go with the Remington. They are both good shotguns, but the 870 is the most popular pump shotgun made, lot's of accessories and it'll will last forever.
For distance, I think the average useful range is out to around 50 yards for slugs.

I just realized that I will probably have to look at semi-autos because I am a lefty, have yet to see an ad for a mirrord pump action ):
Shells being pumped out infront of your eyes can't be good, powder/gas residue I imagine

Remington makes a lefty 870, you may have to your shop order one (if that's what you decide on).

It sucks, remingtons are abundant but no lefties, there are some mossbergs out there but no lefties, yet to find an Itacha
Should I reconsider semi-autos?
