Single shot rifle

Can someone recommend a single shot bolt action rifle?

I'm looking for manually pull the bolt (stick shift style, "forward over back"), insert a round, slide and lock the bolt then fire. I'm wanting one that can NOT hold more than a single round at a time.

there are plenty of 308 sprinfield rifles that you might like
or the P.S.S that means police sniper system, single shot 308
but you can still get it being a civilian

Thanks for the responce.

I'd like to get something not overly powerful, I'll research the sprinfield 308s for sure.

What's the correct term for what I'm lookinf or? Is it "single shot bolt action"?

There is a difference between single shot and bolt action.

First of all, the Springfield is a bolt action rifle, certainly not a single shot, though.

Thompson Center makes very nice single shot rifles.

There are a plethora of good bolt action rifles, you'd have to be more specific as to what you're looking for.

He's looking for a single shot bolt action. Most of the current manufacturers of what he's describing make either high end .22lr target guns (Anschutz) or long range target/varmint guns. You can find used mossberg .22's sometimes at pawnshops for cheap. Good luck.

Thanks guys. Will a .22 stop anything larger than a squirrel?

I've never owned a gun. So if my questions are retarded please forgive me.

I think you can get varmint rifles with just about any power you want. The .223 is popular and not overly powerful (.308's kick a lot more).

The advantage of the .22 (and other rimfire rounds) is that ammo is so damn cheap. Even if you get something with a bigger bore you'd save money by also getting a .22 to do most of your shooting practice with.

The XR-100 is a single shot in .204 Ruger, .223, or .22-250. You probably won't find a more accurate sub-1000 dollar gun. its based on the legendary XP-100 pistol action, and is equipped with the trigger from the X-40 target rifle. I have seen skilled shooters shoot 0.5 inch groups at 100 yards (5 rounds) with this rifle. Savage also makes a series of single shot target rifles in rimfire and centerfire.
