The Sig 226/EAA EZ 9

I went to the range this past Sunday. Iive been looking into buying a 9mm. I had been looking at the Glock 17 & 19, and the Beretta 92. I wanted to test them out first, so far I liked the 92 just on feel, but I wanted to see which one felt better when fired. The only guns the range had availible in 9mm were a Ruger p89 and a Sig 226. I went ahead and rented them to get a feel for the 9mm (I've only ever really used 45's,and 22's). The Ruger was ok, but the Sig.... wow.

I fell in love with the Sig. It was so smooth and accurate. I kinda felt like whispering poetry to it. Then it occured to me that the Sig (like most of the girls I've dated) has a purdy big price on it. When I had arrived the range, their shop had a Sig clone called the EZ-9, but I forgot to ask about it when I left. I found out that the EZ-9 is made by EAA. The EZ-9 is more in my price range right now. I was curious if those of you who have fired both find the EZ-9 comperable to the 226, or if the $250-300 price difference is there for a reason (durability, reliability, accuracy,etc.). Can the EZ-9 use the Sig 226 mags?

I always look foward to everyones insights and opinions,
Thanks.

Also any opinions on the Berreta 92? How do y'all feel it stacks up to the 226?

The 92 is a nice gun, I've got the Taurus version of it. One thing to consider about these guns is that they're going to be heavier than a comparable polymer pistol.

I would suggest shooting a Glock, Springfield XD, S&W M&P, etc. and see how you like those. They're going to be cheaper than a Sig.

I don't know anything about the EZ9. Even though it looks like a 226 clone, that doesn't mean the internals are exactly the same. So it may or may not use 226 mags.

I never thought of the XDs or M&Ps.

I've been looking towards the Beretta 92 because it feels kinda feels like my 1911 (for me at least). I like the trigger pull on the 92 better than the Glock 17. Heavy is ok. I like the that the Sig and Berreta have hammers (It's just preference), which is one of the reasons I havn't looked toward the XDs or M&Rs, but I'll give em a try. Thanks for the reply.

I dislike Glocks, and just recently gave XD;s a try and hated them. Stick with the good stuff, as you definitely get what you pay for. Sig, CZ, and S&W are all quality companies. S&W 9's are solid, but The Sig 226 and CZ75 are legendary. My suggestion? Get the CZ, its slightly cheaper than the 226 and is a much better gun. Its dirt simple and solid as a rock, in addition to being very accurate out of the box.

EDIT: If you want a light rail check out the SP series, same basic design with advanced composites and a light rail. .40 is also available. no .45 or 10mm though.

The beretta is nice but too heavy and expensive (overpriced). I would go with the cz75 if I was gonna go with a heavy gun in 9mm.

The glocks are just nice. I sometimes wish they had a safety but then again they were designed to shoot, soo.

I personally feel like I was tricked into the 9mm caliber. I blame borat for that, and bamispriceless. Id go with 40sw.

Glock 23 is the best gun. Seems easier to find good quality JHPs in 40sw than 9mm.

You can get a Sig P6/225 9mm for 339 at Centerfire Systems, Inc. - Your Home For Ammo, Firearms, Magazines, and Gun Accessories

The 225 lacks the mag cap of the 226 but it looks kinda cool and is smaller.

The other guys can have their opinions, but stay open minded. It's typical with these discussions that someone has to say "I hate Glocks" or 9 vs. 40 vs 45, etc.

As long as you buy a quality gun (Glock, XD, S&W, Beretta, Sig, etc.) in a good caliber (9, 40, 45) you'll be fine. What you want is a gun that you can accurately shoot and handle well.

The G19 is a good gun. It's not pretty, but it's accurate and reliable. If you don't mind dropping some coin, I'd also recommend checking out the HK USP. It's my favorite handgun I own. Mags are kinda' pricey too though.

Have a look here:
SPRINGFIELD ARMORY'S XD-9 A TRUE 21ST CENTURY PISTOL

I just bought the Springfield XD45. Its a swell gun. If I get time I'll do a compare and contrast againt my $1200.00 Custum 1911. It only cost me $499.00 at Academy.

I just bought the HK P30. Its fucking amazing. It's better fit for your hand than the USP. However if you do not go with a 9mm and want a .45 i would take the USP Compact over anything else. HK is def the way to go.
