rolled pennies

Can anyone vouch for their effectiveness? I am just curious, I mean I am a college student and fights happen quite a bit. I'm not interested in lectures on walking away from fights or anything, just asking about this.

So are they worth carrying or not?

Woogie,
You are just as likely to damage yourself as the other guy punching with a foreign object in your hand.

If the cops in your town are like the ones at the college where I teach you will likely face assault with a deadly weapons charge for striking with anything but your bare hand. I would say leave your roll of pennies at home. At least if you were carrying a roll of quarters you'd have an excuse like laundry or parking meters but a guy carrying a roll of pennies is spoiling for a fight....oh and learn to walk away from fights :-)

The assault charge and walk away from a fight advice I agree with whole-heartedly... but I disagree on the sentiment that you're more likely to hurt your hand using them. They work like a charm... and are one of the only weapons ever invented that requires no more skill to use than not to use.

When I was a wee lad, most of my circle of friends carried iron bars about the size of a roll of dimes, though a bit shorter. Easy to conceal, easy to hide or discard afterwards... I made one in ****lshop, then shaped and decorated it (with a band name on it, etc) - and then made a quick-release clasp for my key chain... no one would guess it was a weapon, it just looked like an over-sized key fob.

God, I was a scum-bag kid...

Interesting. I mean obviously it would be tough to get charged with assault seeing as they probably wouldn't know I had it unless something went seriously, seriously wrong, which is a very rare occasion.

Personally I find they aren't worth the trouble. If you have to grapple or grab someone you don't want a roll of pennies in your hand. As for the deadly weapon charges it is definately possible, a girl I knew got jail time for punching someone with a lighter in her hand.

Wow. Well as far as the grappling is concerned, you could just as easily drop it if need be.

a head bolt is just long enough to protrude from your hand about a half an inch. The head of the bolt keeps it from being taken or dropped. They're usually knurled, for even greater grip. And what's more innocuous than carrying a bolt? It backs your fingers in a straight punch, and pokes when used hammerfist. Machine shops practically give away old head bolts.
