Well I'm not sure if this is the most practical type of training have you ever heard of Modern Arnis (Kali). I would think this is the ultimate weapons combat training, I had the chance to train in Kali for about 4 months, it was fun but pretty brutal too.

i'm more used to full contact kali, but your video was very interesting

do you feel that practicing with foam weapons takes away realistic sense on weapons?

im totally with Peregrine here. Try out fighting with live sticks (not padded). Completely different game. Eg with rattan you protect your head, which you dont with smakstik+helm.

With rattan, a fencing helm, hockey-type gloves and some elbow/knee protection is enough to avoid any serious injuries. Ofc it hurts and ofc minor crap can occur, as with all full contact sports. Noone expects to walk unbruised from a thai fight, do they

Here's from Swedens first gathering

Yeah, always been a fan of kenjitsu. I went to an Iaido seminar and it was pretty kool. Always a fan and would always recomend weapons training.

I fought in a padded weapons tournament recently, it was a ton of fun. I won 2nd place, I got absolutely whaled on by a black belt with a three-sectional staff in the gold medal fight. I still have the welts!

It's safe (you wear headgear with a face cage) and lots of fun. There is more skill and strategy involved than is apparent from the video clips, but skill and strategy don't equal realism.
