I lost my everyday carry CRKT today so I figure it's a great excuse to finally buy a Benchmade. I have heard that the 710 is one of the greatest modern classics around and I think I found a decent price on it. The only question remaining is plain edge or partially serrated? Cons and pros of each please.

I carry a 910, but it is very similiar to the blade geometry and taper of the 710 (biggest difference being the tanto point instead of the clip). I carry a half serrated edge model. It really depends on the use of the knife. A "tactical folder" really isn't the best knife for defensive tactics and having serrations really won't make a difference in use for that situtation alone. Straight edges are easier to maintain. I personally do a LOT of backpacking, camping, and hunting so I like the serration for cutting rope, 550 cord, or whatever that needs the serrations. If you plan on using it as a tool or for any outdoors purpose, I would recommend the 1/2 serrated edge.

Thats a really good knife, well any benchmade knife is, but I'd recommend you get a plain one if you arent planning on cutting ropes, wires, cords, etc alot. I have the Spyderco Delica(I'm in LA so nothing over 3') and I got it in 1/2 serrated but I'm regretting it now cause I maybe had to cut rope, and cords maybe twice in my 2 years of use.

That is awesome. Whats the pricetag on that baby? D2 steel is the stuff man. I work in tool and die. D2 is tough stuff. Goog luck getting it sharp if it ever goes dull though.

Never thought id read about good knives on Sherdog.
I googled for the 710 and it took us hear so are they better than the Rukus? which im also considering anyone any idea how Benchmades D2 stands up to there s30v? which i found to chip too easy although i dont have the same problem with my spyderco in that steel but its probably the heat treat.

Dude I am a machinist. If I can see it for a pattern I can make it. D2 steel is very durable we use it in our tooling at work. It can run 3 to 4 times the parts of some other steels.
