You're joking about the samurai thing right? (Just in case you aren't, Samurai also were experts in Judo, Ground fighting/submissions and knife/bow/spear/shuriken).

"Only a fool trusts his life to a weapon" really means use your brain above all. I think the OP is misinterpreting this quote.....

True, runing away should always be the first option. But I'd always keep a knife or a stick in my house. I'm not a fan of guns.
