Only a Fool Trusts His Life to a Weapon
Just remember that. Seems as though there are some rabid gun-nuts on this forum.
Running is the most effective technique.

Would you run away from your own home? What if you have a family home as well and an intruder comes in?
I'm not really a gun supporter...just playing devils advocate.

If "Only a fool trusts his life to a weapon," the guy who trusts his life to his bare hands and running ability must be a downright retard.

If avoiding possible conflict is retarded then I guess I, and every respectable martial artist is retarded.
Thanks for the great post.
Defending against weapons is a different issue.
All in all this is supposed to be a martial arts forum so when I see posts asking which "Braveheart weapon" is best to carry around I get disgusted.

If I'm going to have to travel through a rough neighborhood, and my two options are:
1. Bring my pistol with me and have some avenue of defense should someone pull a weapon of equal power on me
or
2. Bring nothing and hope I can outrun being shot at
I think I'll go with number 1. I'll agree, avoiding conflict in the first place is the best way to stay alive. But to think that it's also the best idea to simply avoid any sort of defense whatsoever other than running away when shit gets messy is absolutely mindfucked. I know I feel a lot safer in my own home knowing I've got 3 guns in it than I would if I knew all I had were my bare hands. I'm willing to admit that if an intruder broke in there's no guarantee I'd be able to take him on in hand to hand combat...so I go to the default equalizer: the firearm. There's nothing foolish about taking precautionary measures.

It's about being prepared for a possible situation. What if your wife, daughter, son, mother, father is in danger? What if the only way to keep them from harm is too kill the assailant?
There are all kinds of crazy fucks in this world. I don't want to be the guy that has his house door kicked in, gets tied up, and has to watch my family suffer at the hands of some lunatic.

Yes, my post was facetious. I just hate these "I'm smarter than you" threads. Duh, everyone knows that avoiding conflict is ideal.
Having said that, it isn't always possible, which is the working presumption of a "Weapons and Tactics" forum.

Your an idiot. "Only a fool trusts his life to a weapon" that's a rediculous statement. Sounds like it was made up by someone who watched to many kung fu movies. Ofcourse you should trust your life to a weapon... much much more so then your freaking hands and feet for fucks sake. If someone breaks into my home, with the intent to do harm to me or steel my belongings, you can be sure that I'll have plenty of confidence that the 12 guage shotgun beside my bed.. loaded with 3 inch magnum buckshot, is gonna blow a hole in the intruder the size of my fist. Yes sir, I'll be very trusting.
