Remmington makes a great shotgun, as does Ithica. Ithica is more expensive however.

Don't saw off the barrel. If you ever get cought with it, prepare to be in jail for a long long time. It's a federal offense. Also, it increases the kick, and spreads the shot out even farther. So it'll be harder to use, much more inaccurate, and incredibly illegal.

Try a maverick model 88, nice pistol grip shotgun with legal short barrel. They can go from $100-250. They're made by Mossberg

Oh yeah but in Cali the over lenght of the gun is also a determination if the gun is legal. So although the barrell may be long enough the over all lenght of the gun may not be with a pistol grip on it.

Whats up Aluminum Kam long time no see.

Well I am glad to hear things are working out for you. As far as the shotgun or rifle you will have to check on the overall length. Of course once a shotgun or rifle is cut or made shorter it defeats the purpose of it. If you are looking for home protection then get a pump shotgun. The sound of it being loaded will catch anyones attention.

i just built a california legal romanian ak-47, would have been $275 (kit, receiver, transfer fees) but i bought some hand crafted walnut wood (from some guy in san jose, iron wood designs) because i think the laminate it came with looked so fugly, and i needed a few us made parts and a 10 round mag & a bullsh!t mag lock to make it fully legal in california law(which ia the stupidest laws ever..) total bill $375, but well worth it.

My Mossberg 500 was $190 about ten years ago and it has treated me well.
