MY new Gun, SR15
Just picked up a Knights Armament Stoner Model SR15, which is pretty much the most badass Ar on the market. 2500 bucks was a tough one to convince the wife on, but its for work and may save my life one day. Had a bad experience on new years eve, when we encountered a group of gangbangers with an AK. Scary shit when I only had a Glock.
Also on the gun I put a Streamlight M-6x, laser and flashlight. There are so many cool features on this gun. Its totally ambidextrous, full rails, floating, even the buttstock has 2 removable tubes to store batteries.
SR-15 Rifle, SR-15 Carbine, SR-16 Carbine, SR-16 CQB
eotech will be coming soon.

Damn fine looking rifle.
That sucks you guys cant get your dept to buy some sort of rifles for you. Do they usually allow cops to carry any rifle they want in their patrol car, or does it have to be some approved type/caliber?
Did the gangbangers point that AK at you guys or did they just have one in their possesion?
I would also feel alot better with a rifle in my patrol car if I was going around meeting bad guys and gang bangers on a regular basis.

After the infamous Los Angeles bank robbery, departments realized that we needed bigger guns. My department bought 30 rifles, for 200 officers. Go figure. Then they said whomever wanted to purchase their own rifle, could carry the gun as long as they pass the school. I never wanted one because I have a dog, and usually have him which would not allow me to hold the rifle, because of the leash.
New years eve, it is very popular in the bad part of towns, for the bad people to shoot off their guns to celebrate the new year. What goes up must come down doesnt make sense to them. Literally, it sounds like a war zone.
We responded to a call of some guys shooting a gun. We parked a ways away and tactically sneak in. Only a chain link fence is seperating me from them, when out comes an AK47 and they start cranking off rounds. At that point I decided I was gonna be buying a new rifle. Hope I never need it, but if I do, Ill be glad I got it.

Shouldn't the light be closer to the handle so that you can deploy the light with your index finger?

If you look at the left side of the gun, there is a pressure switch that is about a 4 inch pad. The thumb rests on the pad, and anywhere you apply pressure turns on the light.
