Looking to buy a rifle:
Not a .22. Already have one. I want something cheap but reliable. Bolt action mauser or something.
Any suggestions?

An SKS, preferably a Yugo, Romanian or Russian. Nice heavy round and durable gun. You can probably get a nice one for around $200

For a cheap accurate bolt action... Savage 110
They aren't very sexy but I've seen them group with rifles that cost 4 times as much
edit: or tikka t3 lite

Depends on what you want to shoot.
A 30-30 is a good size gun. Larger than a 22 but it does not have the power or kick of a
30-06. It is a lever action but it is a pretty fun gun to shoot.
That would be my suggestion.

If you give us more input as to what you want to shoot I'll bet that you will get some pretty good answers.
My suggestion was for a good general purpose gun.

lol well theres a reason it has less kick than a 30-06....It's a crap gun! Little calibre, no knockdown power, meh. If you want a cheap gun that is super reliable and fairly cheap with good killing power for anything go with remington pump action .30-06. When you start getting into the 300 mags and stuff, the guns tend to get expensive (In Canada anyway).

If you will read the TS's original post, he already has a 22. A 30-30 is a good next step but again it depends on what the TS wants to do with it.
As far as the above quote: Why don't you let me shoot you with a 30-30 crap gun and see what you think about it? I hear this argument all the time (especially with a 9mm). Your best kill shot comes from a well placed bullet. Period.

Dude, I own a 30-30 I've shot it lots. They suck.
-But at the same time I guess it wouldn't be bad for a starter rifle.
