being a knife "fan", I am extremely dissapointed with knife fighting instructionals
out there.

Infact it is the reason why I decided to venture into the world of knife fighting
and try to uncover what works and what doesn't for me.

my students have been subjected to my "experiments" and they have enjoyed
the class.

what we have found is not what I've seen anywhere else.

what you will find all over the place, such as Kali, or TMA knife defense,
and reality based self defense stuff is mostly technical skills and attribute
development drills, all this stuff is good to know, and must be practiced.

BUT without principals it can cost you your life.

the principals I use is the same for MMA.

1) control (position before submission)
2) distraction (striking to set up the finish)
3) disarm

but your number 1 defense to a knife is awareness.
one of the drills we did to develop this:
your going to tackle this guy to the ground, you should expect him to be armed!
so, as your grappling this guy, you are feeling around his body for a weapon,
and also watching to see if he reaches for anything.

OJJ in Tigard has a Filipino Martial Arts advertised on their sign. Right on HWY 99E near King City.

I've heard of one other place, but can only vouch for the rep of OJJ. Very decent fighters.

Theres' a guy on Mousel's Self Defense forums called Chalombok who is an expert in Krabi Krabong. You can reach him in their Muay Thai forum. Hope this is helpful. I think he is in Oregon.

Krabi Krabong has nothing to do with knife fighting. It's weaponry mainly deals with 2 36" swords.

krabi krabong is for soldiers who had time to devote to that sort of thing. Arnis/escrima is designed for farmers who don't have a lot of time to learn, but it's extremely effective.
