Your choices in firearms and reaction to the .308 leads me to believe that you should rethink your future purchase. Think about why you want an "assault-rifle" and a handgun that screams wannabe.

For self-defense, there are better options. For plinking and general hobby shooting, there are better options. But if you have $2000 sitting around that needs to be spent, the USP and P2000 are both very nice depending on your hand size for ergonomic reasons. I'd just get a XD series Springfield, a Taurus .357, any quality entry-level 1911, etc.

If you really want something that throws rounds, look into the FN FAL, or other .308 semi's like the CETME clone.

Also it has extremely low recoil witch obviously results in extreme accuracery and precision.

You're 17. Why are you giving advice? Unless you're a competition shooter, I doubt you have any experience worth giving advice for purchase.
Good luck buying your 5.7, I'm sure it will come in handy when all the Level II wearing gang members assault your house.

I've shot a similar round in an HK PDW. If I recall it was .18. Both advertise penetration at a distance, and that is nothing that should be in the hands of the average citizen.
Penetration at 50 yards? 99.99% of justified self-defense uses of firearms isn't even at 10.
The only good reason to purchase that FN is that the value of it and the ammunition (although sale of all buy one type is restricted) will skyrocket once police lobbyists manage to get it banned.

if you liked the g3 and you cant find a civillian model for it, give a mini30 a try. they are great guns and recoil is not bad.

Kimber pistols are good but like any gun, shoot one before you buy it.

Why do you say because I'm only 17 I have no knowledge on the subject. The five seven round was specifically desinged to penetrate armor but not to exit the body cavity or extremities, armor or no armor. Its purpose is to cut down on accidents caused by overpenetration. Therefore the five seven makes a good self-defense sidearm.

Remember, if you get a mini-30 or mini-14, get a brand new one. From what I hear, Ruger has done something to them to make them somewhat accurate. The older ones had terrible accuracy, less than even an SKS.

always seemed to hit what i was aiming at with the one i had. of course i only used out to 100 yards at most so that may have had something to do with it

What do you gun experts suggest?

Also what do you guys think of Kimber handguns?

Just sold my Kimber 1911. best 1911s

Get the sporterized (legal/non-fullauto) AK variant. Those things pack a good punch on the recieving end but are soft to the shooter. They carry a lot of rounds and the ammo is plentiful/cheap and works great.

For handgun, try a Kimber as they have excellent accuracy. The civilian USP is not accurate (unlike the version they make for the Armed services) and is heavy and akward (and unwarrantedly expensive). Your fault if you get it.

I have also used a Sig (220/.45) and would reccomend that very highly as it performs well in all categories and is sweet to the eyes + touch (good ergonomics without falling victim to the popular, now dead late 90's fad of overmolded plastic retardedness). Sigs feel/function smoothly, solidly and are very tough. I've never heard anyone regretting owning a Sig
