Why get a 14"?? That just means less shots in your magazine tube and a whole lot of paperwork. Just stick to a normal 18 inch 870 or Mossberg 500/590 and stick a Knoxx Specops stock on it. More ammo>attachments.

Here's what the stock looks like on my Mossberg.

I would recommend not resting the shotgun on its barrel for a number of reasons, but perhaps this is a hold over lesson learned years ago from the military for me.

It was just for the picture and it wasn't loaded.

But why wouldn't you recommend it??

How much difference are we talking? Like 3 shells? I'm still undecided. I've left a message for a few gun shops around here, and I want to go check them out before I make a decision.

If you are going to get a shotgun, get the 18.5 " 870. The 4" doesn't add much in the way of length. The ATF requirements for the shotgun are 18" barrel and 26" overall. If you want a shorter profile to the weapon put a pistol grip on it. It is legal as long as the overall length of the weapon is 26" by Federal Laws.

I personally wouldn't recommend a shotgun for CQB because of it's length though. I picked up one at FLETC years ago in building entry training and regretted it the whole exercise only to hand it off quickly behind me to transition to my sidearm. It is too hard to cut the pie, button hook, or criss cross in clearing rooms. Not to mention, your leading with your weapon when entering doors instead of using a limited combat position with the handgun.

If you have no idea what I am talking about, nvm and get the shotgun. Just realize, it won't be as nimble as your handgun. Personally, I would just add Trijicon night sights to your 9mm and a good 100+ lumen tac light to the handgun.

As far as additions, my 870 has a side saddle and Surefire dedicated fore-end assembly for the tac light. Basically, it replaces your pump with a tac-light with a pressure switch. I used it serving warrants and such when I was the one outside, but never when I was one the one going in to the house.

I agree with most of what you said except that a good Level IIIA vest WILL stop .223 without a trama plate.

That's something to think about. I have a Glock 26. I've been thinking about getting a different cc handgun with an external safety. Are there any ones that you particularly like? I've been looking at some XD pistols.

Hey Luba,

Get this one and you're all set:

Try to keep the extra gadgets and lights and sights to a minimum, unless you're just doing it all for fun anyways, in which case get all that shit!
